ivoryjones
I'm going to post here what I've got on Miami Vice original bumpers from first broadcasts (by far the majority) and some early reruns (check notes below) in the United States. If someone else also has material on the subject, maybe this thread could be a good place to have it all together. There is one major absence here, that is "The Prodigal Son" bumpers (my source was the Sunday Night Movie rerun, without them), also probably there's a missing bumper on "When Irish Eyes Are Crying". But all in all, we've already got about 99% covered here! As there's a lot of information involved, I thought about some conventions. Here they are:a) XX' (like 5', 35' etc.): time (in minutes) in which commercial bumpers appear.b) "music": that means Jan Hammer's brief cue made especially for the commercial bumpers played during the segment (if you've never heard it. please check this link at 5'59'').c) "episode original audio": that means the episode's original music/noise was still playing during the bumpers segment (normally briefly, on fade out).d) "narrator": that means the "Miami Vice will continue" voice over appeared.e) "narrator & music": that means the "Miami Vice will continue" voice over appeared together with Jan Hammer's brief bumpers cue.f) "narrator & music (the conclusion of MV)": that was a special case, on "Freefall", in which the voice over stated "The conclusion of Miami Vice in a moment".g) "animated": another special case, on "Heart of Darkness" and "Too Much Too Late", in which segments are not static images as usual.g) when there is no additional information about sound at all, that means it is a silent segment. If you're also interested in pictures of Miami Vice opening logos taken from those rare sources, please also check the following posts: 1, 2, 3, 4,

Joey Hardin
Hey pal, if you don't mind it and if isn't problem for you could you upload all original bumpers (which used by NBC and for too much too late episode by USA networks) & commercial breaks for us to youtube or another video sites ? (like vimeo and etc.) And this is from public network of Turkey TRT Network which had been aired Miami Vice with Turkish Broadcast Name "Kanun Namına" 1986 between 1990 (they stopped to airing Miami Vice, they aired Season 2 episode 11 "Back In The World" as last episode on TRT network channel 1 and 2) on the network. After 1990, first free "special" sector network of Turkey had been opened called Magicbox Network in 1990. as from 16.11.1990 They had started to on STAR 1 channel (the first channel of Network) airing Miami Vice as from season 2 episode 11 Phil The Shill till Season 5 final episode Freefall (they also aired before the missing episodes of Miami Vice on NBC Miracle Man,World Of Trouble,Leap Of Faith and Too Much Too Late like the order of dvd list) TRT network channel 1-2 used this bumper with narrator probably same used by NBC This is recoreded on Back In The World episode 25.11.1988 on TRT network TV1 cutted from commercials. (Narrator is saying "TV Series Kanun Namına (Miami Vice) will continue after the commercials) (Seslendirmen diyor ki Dizi-Film Kanun Namı8na(Miami Vice) rekllamlardan sonra devam edecek) Edited November 22, 2015 by Knight&Crockett
ivoryjones
Very cool video, Knight&Crockett. ThanksSorry, but I don't think I'll have the time and energy to upload all the bumpers on youtube or vimeo, at least not at the present moment. We're taking about more than 300 bumpers. AndrewRemington
Thank you so much, Ivory! I am saddened I did not experience Miami Vice on primetime TV. If I was around back then, I'd record all the episodes with commercials on Beta cassettes! I have an old Sony Betamax from around 1979, and its recording and playback is marvelous! P.S. I read all your posts in the voice of Miles Davis, I hope you don't mind! Edited December 9, 2015 by AndrewRemington
ivoryjones
Hey, Andrew! I love analog equipment because even their detractors can't deny that such equipment "was there" when many good stuff from previous decades was just fresh new, so matrices, masters etc. were in perfect shape. Unfortunately, a lot of stuff I like went to digital through lousy work! Miami Vice included, as I just hate the reddish/warm over-lit tone of the official DVDs (3rd Season above all). I also regret every day the old vinyl records which I gave away. Now I'm "re-buying" them little by little.I'm pretty sure the Pilot and "The Prodigal Son" were released officially on Betamax. You'll probably can get them on ebay for a few bucks. My bet is that, color-wise, light-wise, they will be a lot more faithful to the original Miami Vice than the official DVDs.
AndrewRemington
I haven't looked for any Beta copies of Miami Vice, but I should! Analog has more life to it! I also enjoy collecting vinyl... And cassette tapes, too! Cassette tapes are such an underdog nowadays! It's so sad when people tell me they threw their vinyl, cassettes, and videotapes in the trash or sold them! Seriously, my aunt told me she threw all her cassettes in the trash years ago! The world of TV and film, now they are all recorded digitally which makes things seems artificial, when others claim it more realistic.
Noggie
I remember getting an old beta a few years ago & watching my Vice tapes. Other than some wrinkles in the tapes, they looked great! I was surprised at how vivid the color was on the 30 year old tapes! I started taping during the summer reruns of season 1. I had a lot of episodes from season 2 & 3 & then only the finale from season 4. Then I had a handful of episodes from season 5.
