After awhile of reading topics, you get to a point where you don't see much new information. We've probably done such a good job of documenting everything about the show at this point that it's hard to come up with new topics. Yes it ran only five seasons and wrapped up almost three decades ago...but it changed the the style of TV shows to this day. We're all dwelling around here because of that I guess and and it's great to see some young members joining that were not even born when the show had it's original run - that's proof of how influential it still is. We have twens joining in, stating Vice is their favorite show, collecting Vice clothes - and this place provides a sanctuary for them. That's awesome and all we can hope for, one and a half decades into the 21st century! A new generation of Vicers! Even if posts now are mostly about clothing and more recently, locations, it's clear that the show is still on many people's mind on a regular - if not daily - basis. I'm OK if the core activity is somewhat shifting as long as it helps to keep this forum alive. Some of our most respected members have moved on or had to focus on other things and for sure they're missed also by myself, but hey, that's how life goes. Fresh blood is always more than welcome to help carrying on the torch. I agree with Lifeguard, it's gonna get harder and harder to dig up new info, but regardless of that, nevertheless I still very much enjoy some of the posts in here, like people sharing their latest Vice wardrobe find or in particular, the trivia posts (neon, one word, quotes). And I hope this will last for many years to come. Edited May 9, 2016 by daytona365
summer84
The interest for the show is still there, the stories and the discussions run actively. The only difference is that it's taking place on FB now. There are several fan pages dedicated to Miami Vice on FB, Instagram, Twitter and many of the actors are keeping MV alive too. So that just shows, that people haven't forgotten about the show, even if it has been almost thirty years since the show ended. There has been tributes like the Pitbull Music Video "Fun", though I'm not sure, how much of a tribute, it can be called. The latest event at the Miami Boat Show with Olivia Brown. Maybe this is a slow month, but that doesn't mean, that new topics can't arise or that old threads couldn't be resurrected. Just some examples NBC MV FB Page Binge-Watching Guide, 92 comments: - "I loved this show as a teenager. Funny story.. I can remember writing to the British Embassy in the USA because I was unable to join Don Johnson's fan club (ha!). Someone at the embassy knew someone at Universal, so I received a surprise gift of a Miami Vice cap, Miami Vice soundtrack cassette, and two photos, including one signed by the cast. I still have those photos some 30 yrs later!" http://www.samhawken.com/?tag=miami-vice An article I discovered there, All 5 seasons review. About the Ferrari Testarossa: Have you ever wondered what happened to James "Sonny" Crockett's Ferrari Testarossa? Cozi TV flew down to Miami to find out where you can set your eyes on this beauty, maybe the owner will let you take it for a spin. Don't forget to tune into Miami Vice weeknights at 11PM on Cozi TV: - "It's true a white car would show better at night, but white Lamborghinis, Porsches, Mercedes, Ferraris ext. was the fashion in Miami in the 80s. Enzo Ferrari didn't like that they were using a black Daytona Replica, and supplied Miami Vice with real Ferrari Testarossa's." I hope the members don't mind, otherwise I can always delete it. I love this show and I love this site!!! Edited May 9, 2016 by summer84

Tony D.
I think it's important to keep finding some interesting slant on the MV episodes. I try to add a new Topic whenever I get an inspiration, but it's not easy to come up with different ideas. At least the Birthday topic is still going but not many people respond to it either. I see the What are you Listening to now topic is popular. I wish COOP would come back soon!

Coop had so much inside info, but its just the beginning of the year, there is still time. The last popular thread was the one about "Prince passing." And I enjoy listening to music, that last song posted on that "Listening to now thread" is awesome!!! I believe it was a remix of an 80s song. I had this idea for a new Topic, I was thinking of posting, some of the more fun ones. And I found this new article, which I haven't seen on the Forum before. Even though I'm not replying to the "Birthday" topic, I think it's great it's still there, regardless of the minimal replies. mvnyc
Wow, I haven't heard Rick's name mentioned in quite some time. Last I heard, he was Police Video Specialist at Miami-Dade Police Public Information and Education Bureau, as well as Vice President at his own company (Panteao Productions). His resume is pretty impressive and I wish he was still on here. He delivered a level of excitement with just his pictures alone... And I hope this will last for many years to come. Three experiences in the last year I've run into. One where I had my iPhone playing my 2nd Season playlist on the guard tower, and my 28 year old Beach Captain came by and snarked that I was listening to '80s music. Never asked him if he was a fan of the show, but obviously not really showing much respect for the classics. A 17 year old gal I was talking to in response to me telling her to describe my hair, to say it was like Sonny Crockett's from Miami Vice, said she didn't know the TV show. I exclaimed that it does have reruns, but she said she's never seen it. Hard to believe, when I was her age I'd watched reruns of everything going back to I Love Lucy and the Honeymooners. My young cousin in Miami, I sent a pic of Crockett and Tubbs to her and exclaimed Miami!. She had no idea what I was talking about, and I followed up saying I was referencing the TV show. She said it was before she was born.......but she was born in 1982? I pointed this out and she said she was into Back to the Future and stuff.....which was 1985, during 2nd season. i tell you, i just don't know what to do with these kids these days. It's not really their fault, Lifeguard........It's the fault of the media, not regularly showing episodes of the best cop show, ever! Almost every day there are re-runs of "Full House." It's also the fault of their parents who should have been teaching their kids what makes a great TV series.

I'm the same way, but those are sitcoms. I didn't really know about any dramas from "before my time". It seems like sitcoms are the main type of show that ages well (or that's what the "powers that be" believe). What is a 1950s or 1960s drama that was well known by youngsters in the 1980s? I can't think of any. Edited May 16, 2016 by airtommy
Lifeguard
Oooooffff.......then again I fell asleep tonight with FETV on. When I woke up Crockett was telling Tubbs he needed to talk to him. Then the gas station scene of Evan plays out......wow. 30 years after 1985 and that was such a powerful scene. How the hell something like that got on the air in the homo-phobia of the religious right of the '80s is amazing to think about. Socially, writing that has lost nothing since it aired. Definitely an episode, if not a scene, to show younger people to perhaps get them interested. I also find myself thinking about how Crockett and Tubbs reacted to crooked cops during the show as I read news stories about police protecting officers who broke the law and abused their authority. After shows like The Shield and others, that straight arrow Serpico kind of a character is more important than ever.

Noggie
I was a teen in the 80's so I grew up on 60's sitcoms. Music was similar in that all my friends were into old music. My theory is that millennials, being such a huge generation, have a popular culture more tailored to them. Their music stars are their age. Their entertainment is much more directed to them specifically. Those of us who grew up in the 80's were a smaller group. Our entertainment wasn't that much different than that of parents. We had few teen stars. I grew up knowing Dean Martin & Bob Hope just as my parents did. The only things that were truly ours were Mtv & video games. We watched older shows because there weren't many other choices. Young people today have plenty in pop culture to call their own. Of course there are people in their teens & 20's who are curious enough to seek out old films, TV shows, & music but for many there's plenty to entertain them without doing so. Love the site!!
