Daytona74
Hello, so I happened to look up 114 S Water from Out Where The Buses Don't Run the other day, and while there is a Water Avenue in Miami, the actual scene at the end of the episode was shot at an entirely different location, listed as "3015 Grand Avenue at Virginia Street in Coconut Grove" on miamivicelocations.org. Did that kind of thing happen regularly on the show? That they used street names which exist in Miami, but the scene itself was then shot somewhere else entirely?

Yes it did happen quite a few times on the show through its run !
Daytona74
Interesting... other examples? Weird though. I can understand that they used a sound stage that acted as the interior of the Gold Coast Shipping Co. Or Michael Mann's habit of taking two completely unrelated scene locations and portraying them as if they're located right next to each other (e.g. the Barnett Bank Centre at the beginning of "Cool Running" where the interior shots were done in an entirely different building). But why use fake, albeit existing street names? To keep people from going location spotting in real-life Miami? Probably would have worked though, in those days... before Google Earth and Street View... Edited March 28, 2017 by Daytona74
airtommy
I think it was purely coincidence when a street name was used that happened to match an existing street but was not the street on which they filmed. I'm sure that the scripts were written independently of the location manager. For some reason, I can't think of any examples of this, nor of totally bogus street names. Tom
7212 San Domingo used in The Maze was complete bogus as was Wexford Road in Coral Gabled used at the end of Rock and a hard Place. 5th and Ocean was misused in Love at first sight but would be possible. airtommy
In Florence Italy they don't actually show C&T visiting Danny's house but they say "it's on Constitution Avenue at the end of the cul-de-sac" and that road doesn't exist. miamijimf
On rare occasions they used the correct location. In Amen Send Money Stan is following Billy Bob and says, “He’s out of the limo at 9th and Ocean“ and they are on 9th Street at Ocean Court.
miamijimf
Here's another example of the show using the correct location in the dialogue. In Calderone's Return (the Hit List) when C & T are on the hunt for the shooter Tubbs says “were moving south on second” and they were in real life on Second Ave.
Matt5
Good examples . Scripts were usually written in Hollywood by the writers whereas production staff were based out of The Alexander Hotel in Miami Beach and Greenwich Studios in North Miami
airtommy
In Give a Little, Take a Little they give Alvarado's address as "125 Riverside", but there is no street named "Riverside" in Miami. The house is actually on North View Drive on Sunset Island.

In "Baseballs of Death" we have this dialogue: "On the booking form she gave her address as 4285 Second Avenue." "Sounds like The Tropical." "Yeah. That fleabag dive of a hotel off 15th Street." If you understand how addresses in grids work, this is jibberish. 4285 2nd Ave would be between 42nd St and 43 St, nowhere near 15th St.
