airtommy
The opening teaser starts and finishes in the Seybold Building jewelry center. They have very impressive paramilitary guys guarding the entrances. Those guys were totally cool with me walking around taking pictures and looking at my screencap printouts to match up locations. But when I made the mistake of talking to the idiot old man at the "information" booth (he spoke little English despite his job), he and another guy didn't want me taking pictures and that was that.

Matt5
Looking at some of the interior scenes they must have been shot at Ocean Surf at 7436 Ocean Terrace, North Beach unless a set as the other hotels south do not have round windows. The side area where Sonny and Castillo talk also said Surfs on the garbage bins. The more I look at the interior looks like a set.

For me it´s sad to see that state in the episode, as it seemed to be a vivid place in the 1950s and 60s.

The whole area back then looks like it was a fun & good place for vacationing...now it looks completely developed and nothing but “city”...not very inviting. By the way, I have that postcard, of the BW’s pool area, too! Many areas of Miami were completely ruined. I lived around 22nd Street and there were lot of shops, diners, a pharmacy and lots of street life accordingly. after they razed the hotels, shops and Wolfie´s for condos the whole area went dead. If you live there you have to drive to a mini market as there is nothing left around. Fancy but clinically dead.

I know what you mean. I got a similar old Florida/small town/family vibe at Lauderdale By The Sea (when I was visiting the location where Leon is killed in "Brother's Keeper").

The address of Facade is well documented as 3509 NE 163rd St. The 1986 satellite pics show that the property had just been cleared for development, which means nothing was there in 1985 when they filmed "The Maze". 1986: The yellow circled building is the only conceivable option in 1986. By 1995 a completely different building was there, so the 1986 building must be something temporary for the construction workers. 2005: @C Glide NEW LOCATION FOUND/OLD ASSUMPTION FALSIFIED: DISCO WITH PEPE DANCING @miamijimf @C Glide @airtommywas absolutely right. The disco could not possibly be Facade´s because Facade opened in December 1987 and closed in 1993. It was not in operation in early 1985. It was a 5 minute find to get a match for the sunray-/star-shaped steel floor pattern, the overhead mirrors, the tables next to the dance floor, the columns and the very distinctive neon stripes in green/red/blue. The disco used was the same as in Evan. Suzanne´s in the Grove. 2843 S. Bayshore Drive, Coconut Grove. See photo proof below. ANOTHER FALSE LOCATION CORRECTED AND FOUND: In the Evan thread I once added some concrete bare stripped realtor pics how this location looks today.after remodelling. I’m sure real life homeless and druggies used it for squatting after that. From what I’ve read in the past though, MV producers & production crew were basically given permission to film in it for “The Maze” & later “French Twist”...but they could do what they wanted or needed to, to make the episode. They tore & smashed up more of the interior & added the graffiti for “Maze”...later set off a small explosion in it for “French Twist”. In 1987 the Blue Waters was sadly demolished. A high rise condominium and/or office building now stands in its place.

Tom
SMALL LOCATION FOUND: THE REALTOR OFFICE WHERE SWITEK&ZITO SHOW UP @Dadrian@miamijimf @C Glidesuspects on his webpage that this office scene might be a studio set. Nope. It does not look like a typical Greenwich set. We are lucky, because in one shot we can see through the not fully closed curtain that outside is the street on a sunny bright day and we see twigs swinging in the wind. More specifically we see parts of a horizontal balcony (looks concrete=rather modern) and a yellow-ish white building structure or part of it. As there is no other location in this episode that would fit for this short "convenience location" outside of studio this was a quick find: this was filmed inside the same building where the Suzannes in the Grove club was (located on the ground floor, close to the pool, see exterior picture below) that was used for the disco dancing scene with Pepe as I showed yesterday above. GROVE TOWERS 2843 S. Bayshore Drive, Coconut Grove. Also used in Hooker by crook for the establishing shot of Christine´s condo and built in 1982. The building is a bit renovated now, but matches exactly with what see through the curtain. That was the strangest find by a hint of a real interior location ever. Thank God they were sloppy and did not close the curtain properly! Edited November 25, 2021 by Tom

This is the last unknown location of this episode. @Matt5 had a good idea about that police tactics room but he was off half a block and this was NOT a set. LOCATION FOUND: POLICE OBSERVATION/SWAT ROOM: This was filmed on location inside the Ocean Terrace Hotel Apartments at 7410 Ocean Terrace. This is the building on the right of the alley where Duryea and the cops are waiting and where Castillo, Gina and Trudy are pulling up in their cars. @C Glideis missing this part of the episode on this location website and skipped it or forgot that scene. Key hints: 3 hopper windows, a smaller window set apart a bit next to Crockett (Crockett is looking out to the small alley to the south between the Ocean Terrace Apt Hotel and its neighbor building on the corner next to the Blue Waters, thus the sunlight is real and makes sense when filmed on a late morning!), the layout of the room with kitchen and separate room (=Hotel APARTMENTS) and all is still there. See evidence below. ENJOY! Edited November 25, 2021 by Tom
Tom
And not to forget to wipe away all doubts @C Glidehas on his site if the Collins Fruit market at 7335 Collins Ave on the rear of the Blue Waters block was the filming location of the scene where Crockett tries to buy information in front of a fruit shop. It was the location, see proof below. And of course C Glide was right about the scene where Crockett stops Luigi on rollerblades just next door. The significant corner stone pattern is a clear match. One location used for two scenes that look quite far apart.
