Paul Veres
Went to Turnberry Isle today after watching GT1 last night along with reading miamivicelocations.org. Upon quick recon noticed that the lobby just couldn't be that one, and thought I was going to be a smartass coming back here telling you that. Now of course I found this thread (while looking for where to post my photos) and see that @Matt5 figured it all out over 2 years ago The vault scenes couldn't have been done there either, as is known. They do have a nice security booth - in the 4th photo attached you can see its side window into the lobby. I couldn't take a picture of its counter (which can be seen through the window) where you could also see all their monitors etc., as the security guy wasn't too happy about me snooping around. He wouldn't let me further through glass doors to the elevators and wouldn't even let me take a photo of that area, which I wanted to do to make sure there is just no space anywhere in that lobby to hold the large lobby or the vault from GT. As a side note, the concierge/security guy in the South Tower where I went first (wasn't sure which one it was) invited me over to his side to show me on security camera what shape their pool was! Brady from Jamaica, good guy. Anyhow, at least we have a fresh exterior photo after renovation. It is a 1979 building, so it must have been their 40-year certification in 2019 which prompted a facelift. My pool photo doesn't recreate any particular shot from the episode as I now realize - I should have prepared better before going, like having the ability to watch the show on my phone while there, or bring screenshots... but this is my first time hunting a MV location! Getting in wasn't difficult btw, as @Dadrian also noted in another thread. I literally just told the lady at the booth that I'm after a movie filming location, and while it took her few minutes to figure out how to process me, she ultimately just asked for my ID to copy, and gave me a printout to put on the dash so I don't get towed.
airtommy
I was denied access to Turnberry every time I asked. I used to talk to people in Miami and say, "Hey Vice filmed here" and they rarely took interest. But in my last few visits to Miami, I brought printed screenshots. Showing screenshots really generated interest. People's eyes really lit up when they could see it. Videos on your phone would probably be even better but I'm a 20th century kind of guy. 2

Printed screenshots to engage people - smart! Bringing up Vice will be my last resort, I just try to be my usual politely probing self - I have a "talent" (not too valued by my wife) to unabashedly ask strangers questions and explore locations where I shouldn't have access to. Also, many private luxury condo places have some sort of restaurant inside so you can always say you've heard great things about food there and just must try it - makes people feel prouder about the place they work at and they can soften up Another way is to say you're considering buying a condo and just wanted to see the area. It is not even a lie, your consideration might just be veeeery superficial.

And mentioning that they pay 10 grand or up per day in compensation for such a condo place will not harm either 1
Tom
as for Noogie´s bar (in GT and Made for each other): before Flynn´s the location was the "Dream bar" in the 50s (we immediately recognize the distinctive ceilings that helped to find it). I found some rare pictures that show what the Dream bar was like and it looks really cool...

Reason for the mystery so far: it is strangely not on the 1986 (maybe misdated?) aerial although it was there in late 1984, but it is on the 1994 aerial and still there now. And it looks exactly like in 1984/1988, all details match. See photo proof below. This building is the William Lehman Aviation Center and part of the Florida Memorial University Campus at 15800 NW 42nd Ave, Miami Gardens. One aerial (1994) shows, as a summary, where the Golden Triangle scenes where filmed with the University building in the background (orange building). The scenes in Fruit of the poison tree were filmed a bit to the east, north of the Sunline Hangar as always suspected. Thus we see both buildings (University building and the twin-roofed building behind Tubbs) next to each other, with the diagonal taxiway and the small taxiway to the big runway running west-east in between. The last pic is a street view from the airport grounds from a similar position as the GT view, just a bit more to the east than on screen where the camera was positioned close to the hangar on the left (new hangar, the old one was replaced), directly in front of the Lehman Aviation center in the far background, its right section now partly covered by another building that has been built in front of the Lehman Aviation Center since. Case finally closed in both episodes. ENJOY! Click to enlarge! I finally found a rare frontal pic of the William Lehman Aviation Center building that is seen in the background of the airfield scene behind Tubbs´ caddy and uniquely matches with its distinctive windows, angles and tower. The angle is not exactly as we see it in 1984 but it is still clearly visible. The distance between the tarmac position of the caddy and the Lehman building is approx. 600m (around 2000 feet), thus they must have used a strong zoom to create that closeness of the building on TV. Tom
with time travel (2011) on Google Streetview we have now the Lehman Aviation center building at a similar angle like on TV in 1984, position where picture was taken is NW156 Street running south of the Florida Memorial University and directly north of the Opa Locka airport premise limits. Tom
a rare 1973 pic of Domino park at SW 8 Street used in this episode. I did not know that this was still a dirt lot in the early 70s and the tables and booths/roofs we see in this episode and also in Give a little, take a little were built only a few years before MV filmed there.

Tom
Thanks again to a good friend we can solve all mysteries of this - probably best of season 1 - episode with 5 out of 7 daily location sheets, two bombshells included. Let´s go through it sequentially. BTW: At the time of filming working title was „Score II“ which was later changes for Golden Triangle (Pt II). Day 1 of 7: 3 December 1984. What we learn: Limo scene on Dodge Island (was known already). Later that day they filmed the luxury condo in Apt 1207 of Brickell One on Brickell Island, at that time the only building there. (was already known and re.used in Indian wars three years later). The location for Castillo´s house and the interior cocktail scene were not decided yet (TBA). We know both, with the latter being filmed and revealed a few days later. Advance for Day 2 says all will be filmed at Lao Li mansion (Ex-Nixon home on Key Biscayne - known already). Day 3: Wednesday 5 December 1984: filming at the May Ying house (already found in team effort years ago). Advance for next day says they will film at Flora´s Eastside Pizza and adjacent Ma Kao Restaurant @8001 Biscayne Bvd (both locations known). Day 5: 7 December 1984 is the first surprise: the interior meet with all VICE members sitting at a table at night and Fast Forward playing was NOT filmed at Fu Manchu´s as suspected earlier by me due its background and logistics around the 71th Street pull-up scene with C&T, but inside the Miami Shipyard buildings at 615 SW 2 Ave where the exterior OCB was and they filmed the final warehouse scenes where Menton and Li get busted and the exterior parking lot scene in the beginning. The address is well readable in the background. Day 6: Monday, December 10th: the dark massage scene in the teaser was in fact a studio set (suspected, no surprise). The airfield scene at the end was at Opa Locka, as detected by me in great detail due to the background building years ago in this thread. No surprise either. Advance for next day (last day) says they will film at Noogie´s club. Day 7 :11 December 1984. Last day before they flew to Puerto Rico to film Smuggler´s blues. With directions how to label private and professional baggage. Bombshell: Noogie´s club where he is questioned by Gina and Trudy was NOT FLYNN´S, but Howdy Club at 1716 Alton Road, Miami Beach. Also used later as bar location/Noogie´s wedding place in Made for each other. The building is long gone and replaced, no trails of that club cuold be found anywhere. For me this is not a bombshell because I was wrong about Flynn´s but because there is a picture with 100% match between Flynn´s and the scene that is a mystery now. Also it raised the question why the filmed the pull-up scene with DJ&PMT (no doubles!) in the Daytona at 71st Street/Flynn´s when there is NO other scene around? All locations confirmed and found now in this great, location rich episode. ENJOY! Edited August 13, 2023 by Tom
