And again, we could have found earlier if we had listened better to the address quotation in the episode and not go on the preassumption that they use wrong addresses all the time anyway. Switek quotes the address for the Bayview Motel with "1421 W 8 Street". Half of that is true. The real address is 1421 Bayside Court. They even used the "Bay..." in the name of the motel. That, together with the stone wall, is more than coincidence!

The house was definitely demolished and rebuilt (on historic aerials one can see that the old house was positioned at a 45 degree angle to the street as seen in the episode) but the stone wall is still there and it still looks similar (just the height has been changed a bit). Here are two pics from Google that are closest to the view we had in the episode.

Time to add the historic aerial here as we missed that last time.

On the 1986 historic aerial we can see the stone wall from above (even the slight curve of the wall on the right side is visible!) as well as the fact that the old house was located at a 45° angle to both streets (end of Poinciana/start of Bayside Court and end of Bayside court are in a 90 degree angle to each other due to the right turn of the street) and the entrance was therefore in that angle to Tubbs&Trudy when they arrived on the scene. The current address is 3812 Bayside Court.

Behind the house (right neighbor) was Eric Halliwell´s wooden home at 3350 Poinciana. As we can see on historic aerials, it had a curved driveway that we saw in the episode and was also torn down around 2002 and replaced with a different home. The public record proves that Halliwell home was sold in June 1989 just 7 months after filming for 117.500 USD and the again sold in Sep 1999 for 500,000. Then, in 2003 it was rebuild and sold in 2005 for 1.9m USD.

Interestengly, the interior scenes with the whip and the SM/torture rack were shot there on site as the background indicates in several angles. They even went so far to add a fake "38" door number - or to remove the last two digits "12" for the motel apartment (in reality it was a residential home, most probably without number on the door given that neighborhood).

The "Bayview Motel" was a fake sign on a residential home with wooden construction and corresponding roof that was torn down and rebuild completely different in 2003.

BTW: only a detail, but I favor the fake 38 option (no removal of "12") for two obvious reasons: first, in such a neighborhood no one has a door number. And, much more importantly; I even measured the horizontal distance between the edges of the "38" and the door frame left and right, i.e. the "38" is exactly centered on that door and that would not be the case if they just had removed the "12" which would have left the "38" positioned left of the door center 

That´s one of the rewarding insights of location hunting: when you find the location and realize how it looks normally, you can see how much effort and details they sometimes managed to prepare the location, i.e. decorate, repaint, add numbers, etc. I always wondered how they did this logistically if they had up to 13 locations (Love at first sight) in one episode and 1-2 per day to prepare the location right in time before the whole crew including actors showed up there. The decoration of the Zito funeral or the decoration of Washington Ave as Havana is certainly nothing you can do fast and while all other crew members are sitting there waiting until you are finished in order to start with building cranes or camera tracks and set up lightning.

After @Matt5 raised the question in the BluRay thread about the street sign of the unknown Asian Cut driving segment at the end, I would like to continue here after I went back and studied the discussion a few years ago about this location early on in this location thread.

I am pretty convinced now that this is the NE19 Street/Biscayne Bvd intersection, because:

• on the Koch BluRay the street sign clearly reads NE and 19 (both with 90% certainty)
• this is the only stretch of Biscayne that fits with all what we see: the non-existence of islands between directional lanes plus the 2 lanes each way plus a traffic light (not all intersections of Biscayne have one) plus a left turn lane plus - and this is most important -  a very soft left bend in the distance (see my pics below, on one I encircled the location as well as the soft left bend Biscayne takes a few hundred yards up north).  
• the lot on the right of the intersection is empty on the 1986 aerial, but it is occupied with a building on the 1994 aerial (which is a blurry joke, but at least one can see that there is a building)
• the vegetation (some palm trees on the right side) and the distance between the building front in 1994 and with the 1988 screenshot could fit

I also checked other big streets with similar width and layout (soft bend in distance), like Federal Highway, Biscayne further up, South Dixie, etc. but not a single second spot where all parameters fit like they do here.

The high modern building with the bank that we see on current Google Streetview (see below looking north) on the NE corner of the intersection was built around 2000 or after.

Ha ha must be - if you concur with the NE19th street sign (looking north) must be it - we see this exact intersection but looking south in the Pilot.

@Matt5Just to finally conclude this location hunt (not that it´s needed still as proof, but just to utilize all evidence we have) based on your input about Down for the count 2. 

They used the 22-17 Street stretch on Biscayne in DFTC2 and the same 19NE Biscayne intersection in the short scene where the second car starts to tail C&T. It comes out of NE19th and makes a fast turn left onto BIscayne southbound. I copied both scenes from both episodes together. 2 years apart but a clear match of backgrounds. The mast, the palm tree and the building.

the only old picture of South Beach Elementary School (newly built school is called "South Pointe Elementary") I could find.

It´s not the main front building we see in Asian Cut and The big thaw, but a side building (see map below). The school was at least in operation until 1977.

Great idea! I never thought to look at that scene.  I brightened it up a bit and the match becomes more obvious:

Finally I have found the first full frontal picture - an old 1939 picture - of the South Beach Elementary School (the street address was 335 Lenox Ave) that matches perfectly the episodes Asian Cut and The big Thaw.

Just the middle building with the main entrance seems to have been extended with a second story between 1939 and 1987. ENJOY!

@airtommyhad found the Bayview Motel location much earlier and we discussed that find already, but this is worth sharing. In "Heart of night" we see final proof that (1) it was the location and (2) the stone wall was much higher in 1988.

See some interesting comparisons below against "Heart of Night" when Castillo pulls up his own house coming from the corner of Poinciana and Bayside court (the dead end where the "Bayview motel" was located. We can even see the kink part of the wall where the fake motel sign was mounted. The house was replaced and the wall was lowered south of the kink, otherwise pretty much unchanged. The current pic is from 2017 when this area was still accessible by Google Street view (now closed due to gated community).

And I added the 1986 aerial where the kink in the wall and the wall itself is clearly visible exactly at the position where Trudy and Tubbs stopped. As always: klick pics to enlarge!

LOST LOCATION FOUND: ESTABLISHING SHOT UNIVERSITY (ALSO SEEN IN FREE VERSE)

Santa Monica College, Business Building, 2198 17th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90405

I have searched 3 years for this building with all tricks I know.

It was clear that it was in CA due to the Phoenix palm tree and the mountain mirroring in the window and the license plate of a parked car. The mountain we see in the background (they used two different footages in the two episodes) is Will Rogers Historic State Park near Pacific Palisades. Since then, a huge parking garage has been erected at Pico Bvd that blocks the mirroring image of the mountains now.

So great they used two slightly different shots of the same California location - obviously done in post production in LA.
