miamijimf
On June 14, 1775 the Continental Congress approved the creation of the Continental Army. The new force was made of those militiamen already gathered outside Boston, some 22,000 of them, plus those in New York, about 5,000. The recruitment of ten companies of expert riflemen was authorized the next day.

miamijimf
Great comments guys. Brother, it is probably a language thing but please note that the US Military has been all volunteer force (Freiwillige) for almost 40 years. Also only 25% of those who served in Vietnam were conscripts.
aussiefan
237 years of defending freedom. God Bless all who serve and have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. I said a pray recently, on your Memorial day, as I do on our ANZAC Day. I, for one Australian, never forget what the USA did for us in WWII, by sending troops to defend our country. To our friends, allies and brothers in arms, Thank You.
