Johnny Got His Gun

I noticed last night watching "Back in the World" written on the wall a reference to a famous war book "Johnny Got His Gun"

Great read, very dark. Terrifying to be honest.

Quite vogue at the time to toss that reference out. Didn't care much for Metallica's take on it, though. But I also prefer Burton-era Metallica.

I think the reason it's written on the wall is relevant at the V.A, because the novel which is about a young soldier Joe Bonham, a prisoner in his own body. Much like how the vets feel in this scene.

That's why I said it was in vogue. It would also reference the movie by the same name made in 1971. It was considered one of the major anti-war productions for many years. Same guy who wrote the novel directed the movie as I recall. Ironic that Metallica's version tried to reference Vietnam when in fact the original (along with the footage they used from it in the video) was set during World War I.
