Agreed.  This, along with the gas station talk in "Evan" are some of the most moving scenes from the first season.

When Sonny say "get on the damn plane" you can feel the pain in his heart.

I think this was a very important scene for Tubbs, because he is connecting to Sonny on a very emotional level.

Like in a nutshell he is understanding what kind of person Sonny is, a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and cares about people.

what i saw into that scene it's that if cops have a 'thick skin' (they have to with such job), sometimes things are so shocking that they still can get hit even through their thick armor. I also felt this in the adopted babies episode, when sonny opens the plane carrying the babies door, then suddenly gets like violently hit by something when he hears all the babies cries
