Part II is my favourite of the trilogy. Fabulous film. There's even a scene in Miami which is cool.Part I is superb too.Part III is the weakest. It's not very good although it does have a great Pacino performance

1 & 2 both have so many timeless scenes. Flashbacks from 2 are superb, De Niro masterful. Pacino gently conversing with Brando at the end of 1 is also unmissable. Must-see viewing both of these films - especially for men - the relationships between the men in these films say so many truths about us. I'll go with 2, but both are still genuinely unmissable cinema.

I agree, this is one of the most important film series ever, groundbreaking, perfect in every way. A lot of people even in government hold the series in high regard. It is the most popular film in history. It was huge even in Japan! It inspired tons of directors around the world, even videogame designers. (Illusion software tote it as a major inspiration for the PC game Mafia, along with The Untouchables film) and layed down the material (the book is great also, by the way.) for a pretty amazing videogame. It is the ultimate film in history, I went ahead and put my vote in for part one because it is the adaptation for the book and lays down the blueprint for the videogame.

Godfather 1 is a classic & the best for me but Godfather 2 fills in all the gaps in 1. 3 was good but too long & not as gripping as the first two.Goodfellows etc. are great movies but lack the classic quality of the original Godfather! Too much cursing bring those movies down a few notches.

Good Poll except for one thing......In the originals when they made them #1, #2 and #3, they had flashbacks of the times of the original godfather in old NY during the 1920's and them flash back to present day 1940's and 1950's. This did not happen when the series became available for sale as I bought the box set (on VHS) and it plays in chronological order. Different than when it was first aired at the theatres, which I went to go and see as well. Not a bad thing mind you as it made more sense playing it in order of timeline, but it may have taken away from dramatic effect of the memories etc.So if you want to pose the question correctly maybe you should ask what ERA you like the best. The 1929's New York Version? The 1940' and 1950's Version with the Casino in Cuba Section? The 1980's Version with the Taking over the Catholic Church Version?I would say I like them all as the trilogy takes shape, however I disliked the last one if you were to twist my arm for a remark of some kind. And yes...Goodfellows was also extrememly well done!

I don't mean to complicate thing...............I was just saying...You know how everything gets changed when it is issued on DVD or whatever. It's never like at the movies because they have to put some twist on it so the public will buy it?Same thing happens with allmovies. Look at Blade Runner. There are five different copies available (the Final Directors cut is the best by the way)As the the Godfather the general story is always good no matter what order you play it in.

You also got a lot of inaccuracies here: The first Godfather doesn't take place in 1929, according to the original novel states the events as going from 1945 to 1955, the Havana story takes place only from 1958 to 1959 according to an official timeline in the Godftaher Returns novel by Mark Wingardner (which covers the eventss right after part one up to part two's beginning including the death of Clemenza and the aftermath of Fredo's death, which was much bigger than a betrayal, something that wouldv'e shamed the family) part two's young Vito starts in 1901 and ends towards 1920, where a big section covers events that fill in the blank between 1920 and the beginning of Godfather part one, 1945. part three takes place exactly in 1980, Michael returns to new York at the end of The Godfather Returns. So the amin problem is you'd have to, for an accurate one, include all three films, the game because it fills blank spaces in on part one, the original Mario Puzo novel that covers many events that are not in the film (some are in the game, though), and Winegardners novels. I'm sorry if I sound too much like a Godfather geek (I am, by the way, Puzo's the Sicilan is an unofficial account of Michael Corleones exploits in Sicly) but just wanted to clear that up. By the way, Goodfellas (no fellows, fellas) is awesome, also was a great book called Wiseguy:Life in a Mafia Family by Nichloas Pileggi, who, incidently, wrote the novel Casino which also became another Martin Scorsese classic that reunites many Goodfellas stars.

Goodfellas is Scorcese's best film IMO.I like how a lot of THe Godfather was based on real gangsters and mafia tales. There was a lot of Lucky Luciano in Michael, especially his forced exile to Italy. Moe Green was based on Bugsy Siegel, the mobster who invented Las Vegas, and Hyman Roth was based on Meyer Lansky
