airtommy
When the Vice crew busts the college professor ("it's snowing in Miami"), we've long known where this was filmed. But we haven't had any pictures or details. It was The Royal Biscayne Hotel at 555 Ocean Drive, Key Biscayne. At that time it was owned by Sheraton. In 2001 it was bulldozed and the Ritz-Carlton was built in its place. Edited February 22, 2023 by airtommy

airtommy
I found a video with several good looks at the pool area, starting around 10:20. This page has a guide to what's in the video: https://www.kbhistory.org/2012/09/21/key-biscayne-in-1986/ Edited February 22, 2023 by airtommy
Tom
good 3D aerial pic of this lost location, Vanessa´s house at 20 Harbor point. The house was completely remodelled without any taste and is unrecognizable today (fourth pic). The second and third picture are two realtor pics before the house was sold to the current owner. The driveway where Crockett pulled up and the door where Tubbs stood are preserved on these pics. Edited May 15, 2023 by Tom
Tom
Thanks to a friend we have another round of location sheets to examine: lots of news in this episode derived from only two daily sheets that unravel all mysteries and create two new ones: Mystery one: 4 October 1984: two locations that never made it to the final product, as I can´t link them to any scene. The first is a church scene on Key Biscayne near the Crockett house in Hit list with Crockett, Tubbs, McCarthy and Vanessa. The second is an interior boat yard scene with Crockett and Tubbs that I don´t see in the episode. Would be interesting if someone has the script of this episode to check which scene numbers were cut here. Mystery two: on 10 October 1984 they filmed the scene with Crockett, Tubbs and Castillo in the park on the water bridge, but this was allegedly not in Crandon Park, where I found an exactly fitting spot earlier (see above in this thread), but at the Japanese Garden on Watson Island. I think, they refilmed this scene later in Crandon (on a sheet I don´t have of this episode), because what we see on TV cannot be filmed on Watson Island, as the water, the bridge and the surrounding does not exist there (see aerial of 1986). New info: the Gifford office scene was filmed at the Fishbein office at 3301 NE 2 Ave, which still stands. This is a second building (one I found earlier at 4500 Biscayne) that has the 4 slim windows. The building dates back to 1982. Current pics exterior and interior below. Vanessa´s luxury shop was Bodner´s Clothing at the Bal Harbour shops, 9700 Collins Ave. I would never have found such a green corner like we see in the episode outside the shop at the Bal Harbor shops. I have not found any historic trace of that shop. All locations found in this episode. The others were clear already but are not on the sheets I have received. ENJOY! Another question that comes to mind for me is what replaced those missing pages of script at those locations. They total 3 1/2 pages or about 3-4 minutes on screen. That’s quite a bit to be deleted completely and the majority of that day’s filming. In a one hour drama with about 50 minutes of screen time, 3-4 minutes represents 6-7% of the total. One possibility is that those pages moved to another location already being used. I noted that the two locations were in scenes very near each other, 41,42 & 45. I think another possibility is that they extended the boat race scenes and eliminated the other two. I have no evidence of that though and 3-4 minutes is still a lot to cut entirely. I think the long boat race left enough leeway to cover that up. Also episodes generally ranged from 45-48 minutes net, that is quite a natural deviation. To me it looks the scenes cut were some early introduction scenes about Vanessa and McCarthy that did not really contribute much and could easily be dumped. They did a similar thing in Out where the buses don’t run where they did not film 3-4 minutes of material where Weldon drove around with C&T and showed them members of Arcaros gang. In the final product they just showed the last scene and had them just talking about the long night of drive around. The boatyard scene with C&T was probably a redundant boat search for hidden compartments. In Love at first sight they filmed a second scene where Gins got hints from the same person. All these redundancies will be dropped by the cutter if the episode gets too long overall, Meanwhile we know of so many cut scenes or omitted/last minute changed scenes in the scripts that I am not surprised anymore. Tom
A bit of background info on the Bodner men´s clothing store used in this episode. The full name was "F.G. Bodner Inc.", run by Gary, Jacques and Fred(di) Bodner and in operation from 1978 until 1995. They had 4 stores in Miami (next to the one in Bal Harbor Shops also one at 1030 Kane Concourse and one at 1856 NE 163 Street, North Miami Beach) and one in Houston, Texas and Palm Beach. https://www.trademarkia.com/f-g-bodner-73504222 The pic below is a matchbox from the store. There is an article in the NYTimes that described great business at Bodner in late 1984 despite lots of shoplifting. https://www.nytimes.com/1984/12/06/business/the-retail-worries-in-miami.html Edited October 26, 2023 by Tom
