There’s a thing that happens in Florida at the end of April where you have to start saying your goodbyes to friends returning north for cooler air, like species of birds that just can’t cut it down here.

We stay. We stay for hurricane season. Iguana season. For the termite swarms. We stay because the roads are quiet. Because you don’t have to make reservations. Because the heat melts away anything too soft or too new. The summers are heavy. Ruthless. Glorious.

Miami Bayside 1985. If you watch closely you can see Crockett´s boat on the right side of the picture :)

Oh Dadrian!  I’m going to have to object. :p

Those slips are side ties, with two boats between the fingers, making his the third slip on that side of the gangway.

Might even be the fourth slip but it’s hard to tell.

Happened to be way west in the county today, bordering the Everglades. Stumbled upon a nice example of how the developers fill those remaining lots.

You'd think you're in Coral Gables. Mediterranian-inspired architecture, beautiful landscaping, and decent density with 3-story apartment buildings. Good amenities with a pool overlooking a lake. And note the domino table on the left in my photo above! Couple more images from the internet.

In my opinion this is the most sustainable approach to develop what's gonna be developed anyway - great balance of density and aesthetics for Miami-Dade.

It just looks like a fantastic place and area to live.

That looks like Kendall Square.  I noticed it a few years ago and I was blown away by how nice it is.  It's quite expensive, considering that it's so far from the action and a daily commute into town would be brutal.

That's right, it is Kendall Square, and you're right it's expensive - I talked to some passerby and he said a 1 bedroom goes for about $2,200. You can probably still get a 1bd in Brickell for $2,200 (in some older building). This place is 50-min drive from Brickell!

By the way the guy was Venezuelan and another thing I learned from him was that Doral is locally known as Doralzuela because of so many immigrants from that country. :) I knew Venezuelans flock there but haven't heard the nickname before. Certainly true as I just found several online articles using it.

To be clear Kendall Square is not unique in how nice it is. Here is Casa Vera just next door:

Apartments start at over $2,200 for 1 bedroom.

Camden in Doral:

About $2,300 for one bedroom.

Amli in Doral:

$2,300. In fact Amli has several in South Florida, here is a beaut in Davie:

South Florida is beautiful. Especially if you can fork out for a nice place!

Fantastic old photos!!!

I wonder if the Washington Ave photos would be helpful for finding the Havana teaser street scene in "Heroes of the Revolution"?

@Tom

Already tried but not much too see there.

Hello alligators friends, somebody knows if there's somewhere where i could grab the Mc Carthy house (28 harbor key) plans. Thank you

No help since sounds like it has to be your property, but maybe still interesting to know that one can get original floorplans by showing up in person to the county's permitting and inspection center... but even that only since 1990!

"Additional single-family residences built between 1961 and 1972 and portions of 1973 thru 1978 were destroyed as of January 1, 2001 AND ARE NOT AVAILABLE."

First of all, who spells "through" as "thru" on the county's official page, is that appropriate? Second, are they saying they just destroyed those older microfilms on schedule, or was there a fire which picked Jan 1st 2001 to do that??

Interestingly the office is way deep in the county, beyond the Ronald Reagan turnpike, at 11805 SW 26th St.

The other day had a chance to take this photo of the Julia Tuttle Causeway. On the right are some Edgewater buildings.

And way out there in South Beach, you can see the new tallest building of Miami Beach - Five Park, just built.
