mirrorimageegamirorrim
Were the plotlines of the season finales determined before the season began production or were later episodes still being written after production began? The one I really want to know about is season 4. At what point did the producers create and officially decide they wanted to do the Burnett story? I just wonder if it came as an epiphany midway through the season, or was it much more calculated? I suppose this question isn't as relevant to season 3 since its finale is a stand-alone (or "walk-alone"* ) whereas all others are part of a greater story-arc. *Yes, I know "Walk-Alone" wasn't the season finale. edit- After i posted this I thought about it some more and I decided Season 5 finale is really a stand-alone episode. While it does continue the whole "burnout" theme of the season, this really isn't a true story-arc.
