I have two brother in laws who served in Vietnam.  One of them says Gunny was his drill instructor.  What a great man.  RIP.

Oh, man! ;( I can't believe it!

There will only ever be one "Gunny".

(R. Lee Ermey R.I.P.) Another great actor and person, lost, but not forgotten.

I don't like the name Lawrence. Only faggots and sailors are called Lawrence. From on you're Gomer Pyle!

Being from Texas, guess what quote I’ve heard all my life. :)

Huge loss.  ;(  Loved Full Metal Jacket and his TV show Mail Call.  Of course he was in Vice's The Rising Sun Of Death.  He was 74.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Bill Rogin his long time manager said Ermey had died due to complications from pneumonia.

One of my favorite scenes from Full Metal Jacket.  My best friend went through Marine Corps Boot Camp in the 60s and said watching this movie was like being there again.

It's one of the best movies ever made and I think it's Staney Kubrick's best film. I think the second half of the movie in 'Nam is also fantastic and classic. Some say the film is less good after the boot camp section but I disagree.

Jim, were the 'Nam scenes in the movie realistic, accurate and truthful? Despite the fact they were filmed in England.

He appeared briefly in Apocalypse Now. See him @ 2.17

He also had a hilarious guest role on The Simpsons

Didn't know about Apocalypse.  Most Nam scenes were very realistic and the background music was awesome.  Taking back Hue from the N. Vietnamese was tough.  Two small bits I didn't think were representative: the obnoxious old colonel and the sadistic helicopter door gunner shooting at everyone.
