I have a friend of mine that is from Cuba. She immigrated here 11 years ago with here family. It is amazing to me to hear her talk about the things they have over there and don't have over there. We have phones and cell phones. Her family (over there) is not permitted to have a phone at all according to her. She cannot call them if there is an emergency like the hurricanes that come our way.I went to her house today to fix her hot water heater. It was not working. It was simply tripped out. She had no idea. I reset it for her and she told me that in Cuba they boil the water if they want to take a hot shower as no one there has a hot water heater. :eek:There are many cultural differences that we are not aware of and take for granted.I can't imagine the life she lived over there?

Thank Dictator FIDEL CASTRO for this. It's a repressive "Government".Believe me, he lives high on the hill while his citizens suffer.

The trade embargo makes for a tight life in Cuba for many and the unemployment is also a part of it. Yes the dictatorship I may agree with you on, but I have seen what goes on there with a bit more insight as I have close ties with some folks there and here in Ontario. A friend of mine does business down there, something Americans don't do, and yet Americans hold your noses up at Canada because we have relations with them. (that is your government?) The Canadian businesses that do work with Cuba, do so on many humanitarian ways as well as commerce, although limited. The Cubans have a rough life, some food shortages and of course power brown outs during the middle of the day are common to conserve energy, and simple things like meat, bread or floresant light bulbs and car parts such as brake shoes and pads are very hard to come by in Cuba. They ARE there, just in short supply. Why?trade embargos.......................

I must admit although this one topic I'm not that knowledgeable on, there must be a reason. America is not perfect, but it must have it's reasons for an embargo. Amercians come to the aid of just about anyone in the world, offers assistance, and it's citizens are easily the most generous in giving to charities, and helping out the world. When disaster stikes, it's the Americans that are always there first with assistance, and money. If there's still an embargo, there must be a reason that I'm not privy to. It may be more complicated than we are aware of. I know Castro and Obama like each other so does Chavez, as they all are socialists, and share the same belief. Chavez publically asked Obama to "embrase and continue on the path of Socialism". Americans don't want that. We are a nation built on Capitalism. Here, you can succed like no other place on earth, the main reason people from all over the globe try any way possible to get here. Socialism punishes those that work hard, and redistributes wealth, and rewards those who don't, or won't work. People will just expect handout. Once that happens, it's hard to get off that free meal ticket. There is no insentive to flourish, and succeed.Maggie Thatcher once said about socialism, "The problem with socialism is that eventually no one has any money left to distribute."I see a bigger problem within the infastructure of the Corrupt, Cuban Government. If they had a capitalistic way of life, life would greatly improve for thier citizens, and free trade would once again flourish for such a great, skillful, wonderful people. Castro has a noose around thier necks. If he truly wanted what was best for his citizens, I'm sure things would be different. He lives quite well, has many homes, and things are fine for him.I can't make excuses for what the U.S. Government's views have been, I don't know all the details. All I know is that the Cuban citizens are still the victims who are still suffering. America is NOT perfect, and right now we have more flaws than I can count. There are things I'm not proud of, and things that are not right. But as of this writing America is still the envy of the world dispite it's many flaws.

What Coop said!

Ditto! :clap:I would also point out that it isn't the embargo that causes rationing, food shortages, power outages, etc. It's too much goverment. The communist goverment in Cuba owns everything and doles it out piecemeal to everyone. And when the people complain, they're either jailed or told to blame the Americans for the embargo, or both.
