It’s called “You Want More” by Etta James.

The instrumental guitar music you hear in this episode (with “Today’s a New Beginning” vocals at the end) was written and performed by Brian Ray.

Brian is now Paul McCartney’s guitarist.

Back in the early 80s he was Etta James’ guitarist. He wrote and recorded these two songs for MV, and they were never released otherwise.

I contacted him years ago and he shared a lot of info about how the songs were made. He even said he’d try to find the originals and share them with me, but he never found them.

I found Brian's response to my “are you the same Brian Ray?” email:

“Yes, guilty as charged!

I could probably find a good version of it.. not sure if we got proper copies
of it.
The guitar was my 55/65 Fender Telecaster through Boss Flanger
and delay pedal, into a Fender Concert amp, modified by Lee Jackson.
The Tele had big strings on it, like .012-.056 and it was tuned 1&1/2 steps down, to C# if I remember right, standard tuning.. wrote it w that sound I recorded it with.
Singer was Jill Colucci (sp?) and it was written w Steve LeGassick,
who cowrote the Smokey Robinson song with me, One Heartbeat.
