RedDragon86
Don't know if anybody is aware of this but in the episode "Back In The World" the mortar scene, they were doing a test to create the mortar explosions. Don, J.B.Jones and first assistant director Marty Schwartz were almost killed during this as the dynamite that was thrown over the side almost washed back underneath their boat when it detonated. The next night they shot the scene again this time J.B.Jones rigged the charges in the water and Johnson drove threw the mine field as the charges controlled from the shore blew up around him. I got this from the book "The Making Of Miami Vice"

Also in the book it said in "Milk Run" it took two weeks to rig the building that exploded, the scene where Crockett and Tubbs are outside in the car surveilling the building. Vincent Hanna
Damn that's a cool story. Remember when they had to improvise with real practical effects for action scenes instead of it being done on a green screen. Good ol' days.
Dadrian
I’d forgotten that bit. I need to read that book again, but can’t find it. Did I loan/give it to someone on here? @Ferrariman @miamijimf @Ella
Marco Falcone
It must have been such a great time to work on a special effects team back in the day of practical effects. You got to be a crazy mix of artist, engineer, mad scientist and pyro all rolled into one. Spend weeks building a set; construction, paint, sculpting, dressing, etc. Then you get to blow it up! Real firearms that even after blank conversion still recoiled and spat fire in your hands. Wiring actors and stuntmen with blood-squibs and prosthetics. Real vehicles speeding and spinning on real streets. I’ve watched a bunch of the special “making of” featurettes on the 007 DVD collection. They spent months building submarines, boats that could separate into 2 separate crafts and still be seaworthy, rockets, space stations, trains... And huge fully-dressed sets to house them all. Then they blew them all up. Amazing.
