ame99
Hi All, I am going to Miami in one month and would like to visit some of the MV filming locations included a couple in Sunset Islands. Does anyone know if non-residents can access (by walk) Sunset Islands? thanks
Tommy Vercetti
Sunset Island are gated on West 29th Street. I was there in 2008 and the guy at the gate allowed us to enter in our rental car. Maybe you'll be allowed in too. Have a good trip to our favourite city. ame99
@TommyVercetti what did you tell them to get access?
Tommy Vercetti
We just asked would it be OK to enter and drive around and he said yes and granted entrance.

As Tommy Vercetti said, just tell the guard you want to look around and he will let you in. The same is true of Star Island, surprising given the wealth there. At some gated communities you don't even have to talk to the guard. You stop at the gate, the gate opens, and you drive in. They record your license plate, of course. On foot might be more difficult than in a car, but I really don't know. Do you know yet in what part of Miami you are staying and what areas you will be visiting? You can look up specific locations here: http://www.miamivicelocations.org/ Restaurants are constantly changing, double check these before you visit them: https://miamiviceonline.com/index.php?/topic/12738-miami-restaurants-bars/ South of Fifth: the main location to see is 1st St & Collins Ave, 1st St & Collins Ct. - Red Tape teaser, Good Collar drug house South Beach: I listed the most important locations in this post: https://miamiviceonline.com/index.php?/topic/13646-miami-travel-guide-for-vice-fans/ Bayside: You can go to where Crockett was docked (last northernmost pier, ~2nd or 3rd slip) and see the view of Freedom Tower from there (Hit List). If you want to experience a fast boat ride, Thriller at Bayside is pretty cool. It's a 45 minute ride, a mixture of high speed racing and touring celebrity houses. If you want to go around downtown, the Courthouse @ Flagler & NW 1st Ave is the main attraction (Lombard, No Exit, Milk Run, Brother's Keeper). The Dupont Building, Ingraham Building, Olympia Theater, Florence Italy bakery are all near Flagler & NE 2nd Ave. You can ride the Metromover around downtown for free. The Metrorail is not free. Little Havana: La Libertad (Flagler & NW 7th), auto repair shop in Forgive Us Our Debts (766 W Flagler), Evan gas station (1240 W Flagler), Maximo Gomez Park - called Maceo Park in Golden Triangle (801 SW 15th Ave) - this area is also the center of historical Little Havana. My personal favorite tourist attraction in Miami is Villa Vizcaya and it was seen many times on MV (God's Work, French Twist, Whatever Works, Rising Sun of Death, Heart of Night). https://vizcaya.org/ Edited January 28, 2020 by airtommy
