Lit Up
Any great synth-orientated instrumental recommendations which aren't Vice but still 80s? I've just discovered Yanni's 1987 album "Out of Silence" which is entirely instrumental and sounds quite similar to Jan Hammer in places! I love Tangerine Dream too although a lot of their stuff is '70s but often '80s sounding. Edited May 19, 2020 by Lit Up

TylerDurden389
You mentioned "Tangerine Dream" so I gotta mention this one. I was listening to a synthwave podcast where they spoke to one of the members of TD, and they suggested that Brad Fiedel might've taken inspiration from this song for the infamous "Tunnel Chase" music from the first "Terminator" film. When Arnold is on the motorcycle chasing after Linda Hamilton while Michael Beihn is throwing the pipe bombs at him.
AndrewRemington
I am big horror fan, particularly the “Nightmare on Elm Street” series, as well as “Halloween”, “Friday the 13th”, “Hellraiser” and many more. Many of these soundtracks were all synth, or nearly all synth. Here’s a great creepy tune by Charles Bernstein from “Nightmare on Elm Street”. He used Yamaha DX7, Oberheim OB-Xa, real piano and other elements in the soundtrack. Check out the whole soundtrack on YouTube if you like it! I’m this big of a Freddy fan! AndrewRemington
Harold Faltermeyer is another top-notch 80’s synth instrumental composer. Some of his compositions seem similar to Jan Hammer. These are three of my favorites by him...
