TheGreatMcCarthy
SoFla police officers weren't very impressed by the premiere of "Miami Vice" in 1984. Written by Edna Buchanan, the article recorded the reactions of a number of different officers in Miami-Dade County. "It's Miami, the whole way through." Mr. Calderon
Lets be honest...i dont care if its real or not. What do you expect of a tv network portraying one shootout in 25 years just because its real? Profit or bankrupcy?
RedDragon86
They were talking about glamorizing? well the same thing could be said about The Godfather or GoodFellas. If it was made ultra realistic it would have been mundane. You have to dramatize for it to be appealing and to turn out a success, which it did. . Mr. Calderon
Miami Vice the movie, was a realistic "movie" (quotes). It was a movie made for cops. This old newspaper explains a lot about it. Boring, "realistic", "cutting edge" and no one gives a f* about it.. A banana peel has more potash / chemistry than Farrel and Foxx as realistic (?) Crockett and Tubbs.

Bren10
Doing paperwork doesn't make for very good television. And the show doesn't have 5 seasons to crack one case. If you notice, a lot of these guys are 20-30 year veterans by 1984 who probably aren't going to "get" a show like Vice or what it's trying to do. Even though they're cops, they weren't the target demographic.

Sonny even uses pencil in case he makes mistakes. But, no you obviously can't structure a show around things like that. The show did a lot of things based in reality that fly under the radar because it doesn't call a lot of attention to them. Like Rico calling Noogie "yellow socks".
