Kalci
Hi Everyone, I am a big fan of analog cellular phones and thought that it would be good to list some of the phones used in the series. 1. Motorola DynaTAC series. Switek using a beige Motorola DynaTac in S5EP7 Asian Cut while talking to Tubbs. This episode has been shot late 1988. Personal note to add: I am looking also looking to buy one, so if you have on for sale let me know. These phones are hard to source in Europe (except UK) since in the 80s the analog telecommunication networks were not as widely built out compared to the US. There are other threads where some of the Vice phones were mentioned(Muraphone) so I won't repeat those again, but might will upload scenes as well to have full coverage. MichaelAce
I would love to have a genuine-looking brick phone case for smartphones, with the retractable antenna and everything, just for the look of it
Kalci
Next: Enriquez holding a quite interesting cordless landline flip phone handset in his hand in late 1988 It must be a Panasonic EASA-Phone, they used the name pocket-size folding phone for it back then. this was fucking high tech stuff back then Edited April 1, 2023 by Kalci
Kalci
Next : It looks Sonny changed his Cordless Phone on the Saint Vitus Dance for the 3rd Season. S3EP2 - Stone's War I'm having a headache right now just like him finding out the actual model But I believe this is an AT&T branded model, similar to the attached 5455 Edited April 3, 2023 by Kalci
Kalci
Next: yes! this is a different handset compared to those that had been used in later episodes like Rites of Passage, Nobody Lives Forever Most likely the attached OKI model from 1983 or 1984. I have to make further investigation(maybe contact the manufacturer) but I feel this is a close match Edited April 11, 2023 by Kalci
Kalci
So, thanks to a real cellular tech. expert I have some answers now related to the second car phone used in some scenes inside the daytona. This is a Johnson, in the show they used a rebranded handset but the shape and place of buttons were identical. At the moment we believe it was most likely just a prototype from 1979. If I gather more info, I will definitely share Edited April 12, 2023 by Kalci

Kalci
Not MV but Don Johnson related phone trivia. @Paul Veres sent me the video and a very kind and more importantly awesome phone expert from the Czech Republic helped me identify the brand and type. OKI CDL-700E came out in 1989 or even 1988. It had a battery meter, which was a big deal back then, so they sold it rapidly when this phone came out. There are those almost pranky old phone handsets which plug into smartphones: And they just presented a keyboard case for iPhone at CES 2024: Humans just like tactile stuff that has size and heft to it. I bet there'd be market for your idea!

It is boxier and the keyboard on the outer side is a more unique feature. But then again, few things didn't change for the worse after Season 2, right... The big exception being the car.

Great phone with good range. She could take it outside of the house and it never dropped a call.
