Dickey Betts

In the Nash Bridges episode "Home Invasion", Cheech is singing and playing a song on acoustic guitar, and he mentions Dickey Betts.  Betts is not a household name, so the reference seems kind of forced.  It reminded me of the scene in "Brother's Keeper" when Tubbs is going through Crockett's cassette collection:

"Waylon Jennings! George Jones! Jimmy Buffett! Dickey Betts! Waylon Jennings?"

The reason for these Dickey Betts references is because Betts was an old friend of Don Johnson's.   Dickey Betts was the lead guitar player for The Allman Brothers Band.  Johnson co-wrote a song with Dickey Betts, and Betts played guitar on Johnson's Heartbeat album.

Here they are on stage together:

DJ made a nice post about him on Instagram. Maybe those actually were his tapes in the pilot. :)
