airtommy
In "One Eyed Jack" Gina spends the night with Crockett and then we get the standard TV trope of the girl wearing the guy's shirt the next morning. She's wearing Crockett's football jersey. They put some sort of filter on the camera (maybe to make it seem like dawn?) so it is difficult to see the jersey. Coop thought the jersey was red and got a red Indiana University jersey . But I brightened up the picture and then it became more obvious it is orange. It is a Miami University Hurricanes jersey. This makes no sense, since Crockett played for the Hurricanes' rival the Florida Gators. Maybe it's a souvenir given to him by a Miami player? I couldn't find any players wearing #53 around that time. I wonder which players wore number 53? Here you can see the 1980s Hurricanes uniform on star quarterback Vinny Testaverde: Edited April 2 by airtommy
Dadrian
Maybe she just got around The 84-85 roster for the Hurricanes shows this fella as #53: (Edit - also Michael Mann would not let a red jersey on screen, right? ) Edited April 2 by Dadrian 1

Here you can see the 1980s Hurricanes uniform on star quarterback Vinny Testaverde: This jersey makes no sense in two ways. First the team and second the number. Crockett was a wide receiver, so his number must have been in the (higher) 80s. 53 is a number from the defense, usually a linebacker. Here is a link with the best 53s from the NFL and their positions. https://www.zoneblitz.com/numbers-53-nfl-history/ Here is more detail on the NFL numbering system that was changed in 1974 and left 53 to linebackers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_uniform_numbers In the pilot it was mentioned that Crockett had the "88" when he ran that famous 90 yard touchdown. That made sense. Bottom line: this is another nasty storyline continuity glitch where the writers did not do their homework about the background of the main characters. College has a bit more fluidity in the numbers (and this is a college jersey, not NFL), but you're quite right about this being yet another continuity glitch (since he's explicitly identified as wearing number 88 in the pilot). Either that or someone on the production team had a "thing" for 53 (or the Hurricanes) and just stuck it in there.
airtommy
It could have been Jay Brophy. In 1983 he wore #53 on the college Miami Hurricanes team. Then he stayed in Miami because in 1984 he was drafted by the NFL Miami Dolphins. It would make sense if he knew Crockett personally and gave him the jersey as a gift. It's possible Brophy was friends with Don Johnson or a crew member and donated the jersey to the show. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Miami_Hurricanes_football_team https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Brophy
Dadrian
Also, I’ve had jerseys of various teams/sports/players and I’ve never played a sport professionally. Maybe Crockett was just a Hurricanes fan (even though he played for the Florida Gators—or am I mixed up?).
