miamijimf
Hi,What did you all do for Summer vacation? I helped my old high school JROTC hike a part of the Appalachian Trail and tour parts of the mountains of North Georgia. The entire trail goes from Maine to Georgia and is world renown. The kids hiked about 50 miles in five days. My hiking days are over with my knee situation so I was the resupply, medivac person. Still had to walk quite a ways. I dropped off the hiking party at the start point, resupplied them with water, food at various points driving winding mountain roads, transported several adults and one kid who couldn't make it to a camp site, took one kid to the emergency room, 50 miles away who got sick. Up and down mountains carrying everything you need to survive, totally isolated for 5 days is too much for some people regardless of their fitness. Arranged camp site for party when they got off the trail, arranged a tubing river float, tour of GA gold mine, and buffet for the party etc. It was an 11 hr drive up there. This was my fifth time up there so I knew my way around. They couldn't have made the trip without me. Only got reimbursed for fuel and expenses. I pulled the trailer. My fuel bill is $700. Beautiful country, nice change of pace from Fla. I usually see a few European hikers, especially Germans, but not this year for some reason. Check these links to see a small group of our hikers and the tubing float that followed.http://www.clipshack.com/Clip.aspx?key=3FD0EB965DDE5D00http://www.clipshack.com/Clip.aspx?key=957AF3BD71BE56A6http://www.clipshack.com/Clip.aspx?key=B787848E814A8755
Flagler
Nice, MiamiJimF. I'm remembering to a lot of quite similar trails in the area 'Wilder Kaiser' in Austria that we hiked in our summer vacancies a few years ago. But there was no occasion to cool our feet by tubing float...
