airtommy
The Crew (2000) It's a comedy and quasi-sequel to Goodfellas. I didn't enjoy it. Tons of familiar Vice locations: Mac's Club Deuce, Park Central Hotel, Cape Florida Lighthouse, Scarface house, Watson Island Jennifer Tilly's cool little beach place is at 2760 N. Surf Rd in Hollywood. The apartment on the right is gone, but her place on the left is still there, though completely obscured by plants. Tom
War Dogs (2016) great movie with Jonah Hill and Miles Teller based on a real story about two young hustlers who win a 300 million weapons contract with the Pentagon and become big time gun runners. As the two guys started out in Miami there are some great Miami scenes. 1. The massage for the rich guy in the villa great location. Quick find. 5446 North Bay Road. Owned by the same guy (spec developer Glaser) who owned the Transporter 2 villa I found recently. BTW: Glaser cashed 50,000 bucks by the crew for one day of filming in his house. 2. Efraim scares the gang 1445 NW 1st Place, Miami 3. Lancaster Apartments 335 75th Street, Miami Beach 4. The penthouse Marina Blue, Apt 5708, 888 BIscayne Bvd, with nice view on the Port/Miamarina and Mac Arthur Causeway. It sold for 4m USD in 2018. The shack was on Key Biscayne (today it's a golf course). miamijimf
Very cool airtommy. Ol' Blue Eyes kept Miami and the Beach in the public's eye during that time period. And Hollywood's also. Not his greatest movies but Hole in the Head wasn't bad and was pretty well rated if I recall correctly.
airtommy
At the end of Bad Boys II, they attack and destroy a beachfront mansion in Cuba. The house was actually in Florida, with background mountains added by computer. https://www.priceypads.com/bad-boys-2-mansion-demolition/ Delray Beach Mansion Destroyed in Bad Boys 2 Film Once owned by Coca-Cola heir Michael Bird and his wife, Bonnie, this 38,000 square foot Mediterranean estate remained unfinished for a number of years. The estate, originally designed by Mark Timothy, sat on 2.4 acres with 360 feet of oceanfront and was located at 1105 S. Ocean Boulevard, Delray Beach, Florida. It was later purchased by Mark Pulte, a Boca Raton spec-home builder who reportedly paid $16.5 million for the grand estate. His initial intention was to tear down the mansion and subdivide the lot into 3 parcels with smaller homes on them. He decided to put out an advertisement in Variety seeking a company looking to destroy a mansion while making a movie or music video – this is when director of Bad Boys 2, Michael Bay, found his new film set. While the film crews wouldn’t literally destroy the house to rubble, it would still be damaged extensively. They spent a month replacing parts of the building with fake walls, lightweight windows and other facades for a controlled fire that would look like a true explosion on film. Going by the palms this was not filmed in Miami, but in L.A. the palm on the right is a Phoenix date palm that is typical for LA but hardly grown in the tropics. In Miami Phoenix palms were practically not existent a few decades ago. Only in last 20 years some specimens have been planted in South Beach, some around Espanola Way. The other palms on the pic are also Phoenix and Syagrus who do not grow well in Miami as being too wet there. No palm on that pic is a coconut palm that is very common in Miami but does not grow in California as being strictly tropical in its requirements. Also the houses look rather like LA. airtommy
I watched most of the Miami movies last year. Unfortunately, Miami seems to be a mecca for bad films. Here are my favorites: Out of Sight There's Something About Mary Scarface (an iconic film that I liked, but not as much as most people) Tony Rome & Lady In Cement The Specialist (a bad film that I inexplicably love, with great music and filming locations) Wild Things As a critic, I'd only rate "Out of Sight" and "Scarface" as truly good films. I don't count movies that only briefly touched down in Miami (like Goldfinger and The Godfather Part II).

It will appeal mostly to Vicers. Wild Things is mostly a good film but it gets completely ridiculous near the end when it's revealed that Bacon was in on the plot. Then it's revealed that Neve Campbell is still alive and she kills both Bacon and Dillon. It's just ridiculous and the film loses all credibility. It's too bad because Wild Things could have been a really top notch Neo Noir if it had a better ending that wasn't ridiculous. I used to like the film more but I changed my mind about the ending. Cat Chaser isn't too bad. It could've been better. I like the cast and Abel Ferrera is a good director. He directed Vice episodes Home Invaders and Dutch Oven. The film has some unpleasant scenes that was to be expected from Ferrera. He directed Driller Killer and Bad Lieutenant too. Miami Blues is quite good but it's disimproved a bit because of the assholiness of Alec Baldwin. Plus I don't think someone can die from getting a broken finger like the Hare Krishna does in the film. So I agree with you, airtommy. It's a pity that there weren't more good or great movies filmed in Miami as it's one of the greatest settings and locations a movie could have. Yes, the first half of it was filmed in Miami. It's based on an Elmore Leonard book, and directed by the great Steven Soderbergh. Awesome cast, good script. It's very similiar to another Soderbergh/George Clooney movie "Ocean's Eleven".

airtommy
In 2002-2003 there was a Swedish TV show called "Ocean Ave." It was a standard daytime soap opera - crank out new episodes every day, beautiful actors/actresses, low production values and acting. Most of it was filmed indoors (presumably on sets), but not entirely. I saw a scene in which they are shopping on Lincoln Road. Of course, there is no street named "Ocean Avenue" in Miami. The main drag in South Beach is Ocean Drive. MV actor Marc Macauley is a regular cast member, as is Victoria Jackson of Saturday Night Live fame. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_Ave. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0323463/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm Apparently, the entire series is on Youtube for free:
