CrockettandTubbs
Hey everyone...looking for some advice!I get these absolutely awful headaches literally two to three times a day. It feels like they are right behind my eyes, and it's almost like a throbbing thing. I have tried giving up my computer for two days (difficult but I managed it) and not listening to music through headphones or writing (I have really awful light in my bedroom so have to use artificial light when I am writing my stories by hand...and I have teeny tiny handwriting so that doesn't help!). They are really awful, and I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to what to do when you have a headache...or preventative methods (I really don't want to use paracetamol or other pain killers if I can avoid it cos I don't want to end up like Theresa...). Do you think it's worth going to a doctor because I thought if you said you had headaches there was very little they could do?I start studying my degree online from September so will be doing much of my work by myself in my room so I really need some help :cry:Any advice will be greatly appreciated!! (I'm 18 if that helps!)
Christine
I´m not sure whether it can help you, but in 1994, I´d been suffered by a meningitis. Thereafter, I was also effected by very bad headache. My doctor advised me to use ginkgo. It´s something of natural medicine. In Germany, it´s only available as drops. Maybe, you should ask your druggist about it. With me, it helped. I´d advised a friend to try it with her daughter, who was 12 at this time. The poor girl was regularly effected by migraine. With her, it also helped. But if it doesn´t help, you might go to an eye specialist.I wish you all the best!
LNGLK
Well, I have headaches 2-3 times a year... then I either go to sleep (20 minutes are enough) or take Trigan-DBut of course the best thing is to consult a doctor.I used to have terrible problems with blood pressure (there was nearly no pressure), took up figure skating and... ended up like Theresa: I have no problems with pressure any more, but I got addicted to skating ;)May be you should do some sport on a regular basis? Christine
But I think before she does any sports she should ask her doctor if it´s OK. This kind of headache could also be a symptome for a high blood pressure. Then, sports could make things worse.
Brenda
Although I hate going to the doctor and I avoid it as much as possible, I would seek some professional advice if I were you. You are right, painkillers are no solution because you might get addicted and, as a result, lose a gorgeous boyfriend just like Theresa did , moreover, they will only mask the symptoms and may affect your liver, kidneys, etc. It would be a good idea to find out what the reason of your headaches is - before you go to the doctor you might try to "listen to your body" and find out when they appear. Do they start because of migraine, stress, an eye strain, sinusitis, anything else? I guess Christine is right, you may have to see an eye specialist. Perhaps you just need a pair of glasses? When a headache is pestering me it's usually either my eternal problem with sinuses or stress. Sometimes I take an ibuprom but if time permits I take my dog (see the photos on my profile ) for a walk or take a nap, or have a cup of hot, strong and sweet black tea. I'm a tea junkie, you know I wish you no more headaches! Please do tell us what your decision was!

Christine
But I´m not a doctor. I only dislike using all those chemical stuff. If I´ve got a problem, I first try to use natural medicine. I´ve seen what to much chemical stuff can do with someone because my mother, who´d needed to use medicine all her life, died because of liver cirrhosis. This ginkgo (it´s herbal medicine), I´ve been talking about just widens the brains blood vessels to stimulate the blood flow. I also go for natural medicine and avoid too many "chemicals". When I was a child, antibiotics were "fashionable"; as I lived in a health resort, most of my childhood friends were doctors' children. Many of them have problems with their kidneys or liver now because their parents seemed to treat antibiotics as panacea for anything, starting from common cold... COOPER&BURNETT
I had headaches all the time too. One time, I had a headache that lasted for 11 straight days, and wouldn't go away.It turned out that I had very high blood pressure. I was given a perscription blood pressure medicine, and the headaches stopped.Don't know if this your problem or not, but I'd be looking for a prevention, not just a quick fix. However, even though Thresea did get addicted to pain killers, My doctor and pharmacist both said a vicodin now and then, or even for two weeks wouldn't get you addicted. You'd have to take the vicodin pain killer for a while before you'd be addicted. I have a bottle that I keep just in case of a bad pain. There are no refills (unless I request a refill which is rare) I usually cut one tablet in half to see if that does the trick. I can go a year or more without asking for another 30 tablets. I just like to know I have them if I need them, however, that's me, and some people can't control themselves, so for them, I think they should be careful, and not have access to too many for long periods of time. If I don't drink Caffeine in about 24 hours, I get a splitting headache too.

My cousin goes in for all those strange oriental martial arts, he says if you don't drink alcohol, coffee, strong tea (don't drink at all), you may use them as an untracable doping before the competition :DSorry for off top:o
Christian
If you got really bad headache don't waste time or try anything yourself.----> GO SEE A DOCTOR!!!It's true, the cause could be many things like the other guys said...like migraine or high blood pressure and so on.It is probably nothing serious but you should make sure on that! Jimmy
I don't know about your eye sight, but it could be the reason you are getting headaches. Maybe you need glasses? It's pretty demanding on your eyes if you do have to write in a bad lighting. My friend had super bad headaches until he had his eyes checked out. It turned out that he needed glasses. Now, his headaches are history.
Icemanmike
I used to get migranes quite often in the past and lately.. Not so much. Diet... Too much red meat. Too much caffeine(one soda a day and no more) if you live by a coffee pot then you may want to cut back some... Bright light(artificial) and STRESS... That's a biggie... When was the last time you had your eyes checked? Maybe both eyes aren't focussing the way they should...Oh yeah, go see a doctor...Hope your feeling better soon and keep us posted.. Your among some great friends here.......Mike
Stinger390X
You have to stop watching reality tv and stay away from Judge Judy and Springer as this can make anyone nautious.Caffine fix might work but stay away from RedBull etc as this is addictive.Anything MV seasons one through three will be relaxing and soothing and I highly recommend meditation with your favorite episodesGood luck................................. CrockettandTubbs
UPDATE!Been to the optician's today and was told that it was muscular eye strain that was possibly causing my headaches. So...I now have a pair of glasses to wear when I am concentrating on my computer or when I am working on my writing. It's a strange new feeling...but everything seems to be so much clearer!Thank you to everyone for your advice *hugs* I hope this can now be CASE CLOSED! Brenda
Great! I was just about to ask you whether you've already seen anyone about your headaches! Myself, I've been feeling dizzy and sleepy because I still haven't recovered from my throat infection and spring has just arrived - although I've been looking forward to this change of weather, it's difficult to get used to +15C instead of -10C which we had here earlier this month! Anyone else feeling that way?

Christine
Children can outwid their eyes. That´s what my oculist had told me when I had visited him with my children in the past. So, it often takes a long time until someone finds out that a child has got eye problems. Often they only find out about that because the child can hardly concentrate for a longer time, feels tired, and yes, some of them are suffered with headache.
