How good did it get? was it a good show or an average show? I'm not sure if i should get it on dvd or not.Dennis Farina and John Santucci are ace and it has a great opening titles song in Runaway. And I heard the Las Vegas episodes were an influence on Casino and I like that film (more than Goodfellas)I have doubts though. I saw a bit of an episode on youtube and it was quite dull. Pal Guilfoyle played a criminal that takes a hostage in a building and it was below par. It was similar to the Vice episode Th Maze, which wasn't exactly a good episode of Vice. NBC moved it to Tuesday nights at 10pm in it's second and last season opposite "moonlighting", which killed it. If I remember correctly, the last episode brought it from the 1950's to the 1980's. Stinger390X Posted November 25, 2012 Report Share Posted November 25, 2012 Actually I would like to correct your last statement.Crime Story did horrible in the first couple of weeks ending up as 57 out of the 58 shows listed on the Nielson ratings charts. They were almost going to cancell it in it's infancy...However... a rampent letter writing campaign stopped the show from getting the axe, and they started to change the story line and bring in some interesting actors like Pauly and of course "Dice" and the story line started to get interesting.I, for one of many of my friends, just watched intently because of the cars! Being a piston-head I loved the show from the very start just for the cars!!!I think the plot line and the Vegas touch made it a great story. Torrello chasing the bad guys from Chicago to Vegas with a federal badge made it believable too.I loved the show but was utterly dissapointed in the surprise ending(no giveaways from me!) It left too many questions unanswered, but I still liked the whole concept and it was very well done.Also Crime Story took place in the mid sixties around 62-63 when it started Torello drove a 57 Dodge, but I remember seeing 62 and 63 Fords in the first couple of episodes. The plot line follows a couple of years and the nuclear tests were also in the mid sixties in the desert (one of the shows plots) I figure it ended around 66 or 67 approximately in the third world countries where Luca was buying up the politicians. (coincidently this also parallels a lot of things that really happened in the banana republics and of course el Salvador in the 70's (real life fodder for story lines...)I loved the show! DA_PAUL2 Posted July 15, 2013 Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 I remember a friend recommending it to me when i was about 15-it was on very late at night-usually about midnight and i only ever caught a few shows-but i enjoyed them.A nice surprise was a friend bought me the season 1 boxset recently so ill have to try watch it-like anything though everyone's tastes are different so the best way to find out if it's good is to try get it and view it yourself bud. Viceman Cometh Posted July 15, 2013 Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 I've had both seasons on DVD on my rainy day shelf for several years. I've only ever watched the pilot telefilm. While it wasn't bad, it didn't make me want to dive right in to the rest of it. They seemed to be setting up a lot of characters and a lot of mythology, with expectation that it would be serialized, not episodic like Vice, and I haven't wanted to commit to it that much.
