Interesting enough, Vin Diesel apparently is not working on it anymore according to the Wrap:

https://www.thewrap.com/don-johnson-talks-potential-miami-vice-reboot-video/

Can't say I am disappointed; not a big Vin Diesel fan.

With Don coming back in, let me sum up my dream scenario:

- Synthwave soundtrack all the way. For heaven's sake, no gangsta rap Bad Boys style music; synthwave will be the perfect nod to the original series, with still a stylish modern taste to it. Great Synthwave artists out there. Suggestion: Junkie XL:

- Don back as Crockett. Awesomeness all around, but how to make that work? I see him in a Castillo position (lieutenant) but who also gets in to the action occasionally. Still a total bad ass, in hopefully a retro (stolen?) Ferrari

- PMT occasionally in a guest starring role. I would like to think he is retired, living a sort of playboy lifestyle in the Caribbean as a PI. But gets brought in once in a while for an undercover assignment.

- Filmed in Miami. Seems like a no-brainer, but that 2006 movie was filmed for 70% in a fake Cuba and other Latin American countries. I wanna see SoBe, art deco, sunshine, sunsets/rises and girls in bikini's.

- Offshore boats must return.

- Fashion, but in a stylish way. Current fashion sucks; I want to see expensive outfits; again not those 2006 outfits that looked...vanilla.

Oh wow, guess my hunch was right then. All this time and silence from NBC I figured the "reboot" was canned. I'm glad it is, it would have been an absolute atrocity, though whether worse than the movie, we'll never know and quite frankly? I don't wanna know.

Although I'm not sure if Vice should be rebooted at all even if somehow we get most of the cast back, it won't have the same charm and effect it did back then in today's age anyway. Not on me it would at least, I'm just not sure if it would work as well. But I'm open to it for curiosity's sake.

Ferrari needs to come back in. I hope they will go for a retro Ferrari though. The Daytona was retro. And old classics are more valuable than the newest versions. But let's see, I would love if Crockett would continue to drive in a white Testarossa.

Just imagine the first episode's last scene: Crockett putting on a white linen suit, stepping in a Testarossa and driving into the sunset on his way to an assignment. This is equivalent to Daniel Craig saying Bond, James Bond at the end of Casino Royale in terms of epicness (is that a word?) Cue the Vice theme, end credits. And you have a show on your hands...

That is quite the contradiction :)

Guys, what is going on at this forum? Before people think: who the heck does this newbie think he is: I have been a .org member and later online member for many years, just under different names: mennoinmiami, mennoinoslo (I move around a lot.)

With the news from yesterday, with Don more or less announcing he is coming back to Vice, I expected a tornado of responses here. Yet, as Mr C mentioned: angelina's funeral had more of a pulse. What is going on? Where is Ferrariman? Where is Tony D, who has been begging for a reunion show since the dark ages. Where is Rick Bravo and Srobak? Okay, now I am pushing....  But still: where the heck is everyone and why is there no ticker tape parade to celebrate yet?

Surely it is not just Mr C and myself who are excited about this? A Vin Diesel Miami Vice show without the original cast never looked great to me, although it could spark interest to the old show and cast members, which I think is a good thing. But now with Don returning? This is huge! Like I mentioned, this is the greatest news ever since the series ended. Don showed in 3 seconds with the Lebron commercial he had more charisma than Collin Farrell (who I like a lot) had in that sorry excuse of a movie.

Come on guys, throw your ideas on the table here. How can we make it work?  How can a new Vice compete with a plethora of well made TV series like they are on Amazon, Netflix, AMC etc? Who should be cast? Should Mann return to produce? Can we get endorsements from Rolex and Ferrari etc to make the show pay for itself?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Folks will respond, MennoinSF. Some are at work and don't log on until the evening. Some don't log on every day-only nuts like me!

Well, I have mixed feelings about a reboot, but if DJ get's involved, I may change my tune. It will never recapture the original feel but a mature Crockett might be interesting. (Just like a mature Nash Bridges, which I'm also looking forward to.)

So, as far as ideas go, Robbie has a Task Force in his stories that might work for a reboot, but with Crockett at the helm, since Robbie hints Castillo's going off into the sunset with Trudy!

I read somewhere that DJ's son, Jesse Johnson could be involved in a reboot, although, that may have just been wishful thinking. He'd be great as Billy.

I was thinking a PI agency could also work, with Billy as the main detective and Crockett, advising him, like they do in other detective shows. But maybe that theme has been used too often.

There are lots of other ideas out there floating around. If they pull this reboot off and I see dates projected, I'll get excited. Right now, I'm just tired of rumors and disappointments.

what makes me a bit sad, it's that some fans out there (i will shut up the names :)) are totally focused, not to say obsessed on the clone concept. MV was the 80s, and the 80s were creativity. some people want Ferrari, and DJ, or will commit suicide. come on guys. where is the crazyness of the 80s. we need something new, fresh, crazy like that fun period. i just came across another good article from deuxflicamiami.fr. where DJ is interviewed. and what is funny, and that personnally i find great, it's that DJ is opened to everything. during a moment he says Crockett could even reappear as a criminal. which i find great. i mean i'm not particularly keen to a Crockett criminal idea, but i really love that crazyness, and that unexpected. this is the 80s. the 80s wasn't something frozen. everything could happen, and this is why i love that era

The topic has been discussed extensively in this thread as well since the announcement that Miami Vice would return back in 2017, when that thread was made.

I feel exactly the same. And I honestly don't feel like commenting anymore on hints and rumors and speculating, as I already have in the aforementioned thread and elsewhere several times. At this current time there are no official statements by any network. I'm wondering maybe NBC will take on the project. Yeah there I go again. :) But again, there is no concrete information/material a starting point to go by now in regards to who the characters/actors will be, stories, setting, music. Not even a date is set for an eventual revival of the series, so when that comes in order, I'll give my opinions. Well that and when everything else gets revealed. I'm just afraid it won't live up to my expectations and I will get disappointed.

I want to see Vice for the new era, not a movie done in 2019 about  World War II or about the 80s. MV has a lot of room to create new paths, and this includes Don, Jesse or a few guest appearances of Philip or others. Probably Universal  got the idea about a MV movie or series without Don is wasted money. Everybody is old, myself included, and i dont expect to see Don or PMT running like on their 30´s these days. But they should be in the mix to give some historical weight on it.

I dont want a period piece either. Because than it will be ridiculed, like that Starsky and Hutch remake or that Dukes of Hazzard remake. Doesn't work. Miami Vice was a show that was ahead of it's time, it was super fresh. I want the same for the reboot (ugly word.) Despite that reboots are usually due to a lack of ideas (as Don said himself) you can till make it fresh and good.

I think (but perhaps it is wishful thinking) that we are beyond the rumor stage. Don's wife hinted towards it a week or so ago, and more importantly: Don said he is working on it. He would not say this, unless they were in a far stage of development I would assume. So yeah, my excitement is there now.

BTW, any of you (besides Mr C) watched Fastlane? It was a show in 2002, lasted only 1 season, but I liked it. It was a bit of a Vice rip off, but in modern times. It had contemporary cars, music, clothes and looked pretty fresh, although the writing and acting wasn't of the same level as Vice seasons 1 - 3. Still, if we can make an improved version of Fastlane, then I am game. Especially if DJ is on board

As far as I'm concerned it will come down to writing. Got no interest otherwise. And frankly the bar for that with cop shows has been pushed awfully high. NCIS LA has the team dynamic nailed, and the whole flashy glitz thing got beaten to death by the CSI franchises. I was never attracted to Vice for the fashion. It was the writing that drew me in.

And, frankly, they'd have to find another focus. The drug trade was never really glamorous, and it sure as hell isn't now with the rise of the big narco organizations.

I really don't get why people want a 70 year-old Johnson to return in a new show. Are there any 70 year-old police officers anywhere in the world?

Don't get me wrong, I adored him as Crockett in the O.G. series, but I really don't want to see a show about a bunch of geriatric Vice cops purely for the sake of nostalgia. I'd rather they made a clean break and just tried to make the best show they can.

I agree with you here.  It doesn't make a lot of sense unless his character of Sonny is in an advisory role, like a contractor.  I hate to say it, but the heavy lifting needs to be done with younger characters.  Maybe their techniques at being under cover need a refresh by going old school ... something along those lines.

I think universal didnt swallow the flop of a great franchise with that movie. They know how important vice is. I have doubts if universal would reboot vice to bury it in few years expecting don getting old. Sounds absolutelly stupid. So, its possible Don or anyone else will be more like a supporting role, than a main role. The main duo role for new generations has to be left for two new actors, developing the franchise from here on, around them. Not around Don. Stories are easily shaped. If we do a search here we can find lots of possibilities, the most plausible one is the billy crockett / jesse johnson theory.

Though im curious about don, i wouldnt leave pmt without a regular role.

Depending on the budget, the brand new 812 GTS would be great... Front engine, V12, Spyder, and they're marketing it as kind of like a new Daytona. You just gotta accept that that's what car design is these days. The sharp bits are all aerodynamics and I think it looks great, there's never been an ugly Ferrari.

There's something they can do with PMT to make him a regular, like finding his long lost son.

Well yeah bascially... But sports cars are designed to generate downforce nowadays to increase grip and turn corners faster, which is an upside-down airplane since airplanes are designed to generate lift instead. An upside down f-raptor.

You're forgetting that the Daytona wasn't exactly modern when the original series was made. In fact it was getting on for 20 years old.

Not that Ferrari's from 20 years ago were that great either, but still lol.

The one Mann picked for the movie was nice.

Ferrari F430 Spider.

Its not about being old or not. The testa was newer and it still had a cool car look. A cool car look its different of a x-fighter look.
