People spend way too much time with their face buried in a cell phone to care much about anything worth while today.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying a "Miami Vice" reboot would be worth while! ;)

Very true about the cell comment Lou.

*edit - The DAYS INN is now closed

They better board it up good—before the squatters come in and get held hostage by some punks. :p

It really would cost THAT much to have a MV Online get together down in Fort Lauderdale this summer.  A RT ticket wouldn't cost much more than $200 IF we all together and booked it as a charter group, the same w/ a hotel and a bus.  The DAYS INN in N. Miami Beach is like $100/nt for a double.  For less than $500/ea. it would be easy to have our own convention and visit the most famous MV locations.

Our own convention sounds really exciting!

This all, IMO, centers around THE most spectacular phenomena that was MV.  It all began w/ Tartikoff trying to come up w/ fresh, new ideas that would pull a laggin NBC out of last place.  He himself, Brandon Tartikoff, came w/ the original idea scrawled on a napkin at at brainstorming board meeting - "MTV cops".  Then the most fascinating thing that has ever happened in the history of television happened.  What started out as a show patterned after a music video began causing music videos to be paterned after it!  < THAT is sooo freakin' mind blowing it really would take a team of sociologists to completely figure out what caused what to happen when. Music videos began using the same kinda font and graphics and being shot in the same way MV was, many actually shot IN Miami even.  I saw a locals casting director interviewed and she said after the first season it was really scary because numerous REAL drug dealers began showing up at her office asking to be extras or stand ins.  < That actually happened many times.  In fact, in MADE FOR EACH the character John Castalano was DJ's downstairs neighbor and he and DJ got into a physical altercation on the set after the drug dealer kept landing his helicopter on the condo roof just above DJ's condo.

My main point is NO OTHER tv show ever had the impact of MV..EVER!!!  Hell Macy's had a MV dept in all of its chains around the country.  Gene Simmons of KISS and Phil Collins begged to be on the show because the show popularalized what it glamorized what these stars actually did, or were hyped to the public to do.  Its like what came first the chicken or the egg.  Did MV invent the glam rock/pop music video OR did the rock/pop video invent MV?  DJ even had a line of boats made for his Sonny Crockett character.  It made millions for a guy named Don Aronow (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Aronow) who was murdered in a drug deal that came right out of a MV script!  < He gave DJ a few boats for freakin' free.  Some say Bush Sr. was the one had him killed even and there is some evidence to back this up.

One the THE biggest REAL drug smugglers (Jon Roberts) ever watched & loved the show.  He loved it so much he got his g/f (Toni Moon) a speaking part in the episode  "Whatever Works".
