Yeah I've closely observed Miami since about 2012, and over the last 10 years there has definitely been another real estate boom, with many more high rises popping up especially in Brickell, Downtown, and Edgewater areas. Not as sure about more expressways, though I track buildings more than I do roads, but there is a huge project underway for transforming the Dolphin expressway above Miami river into a double-decker and a monster of a beautification looking like a huge spider above I-395 near the bay (https://www.i395-miami.com/). I believe the budget and timeline recently increased... I am not too against this particular project because of the spider which will be a unique feature, I just hope the concrete job will be better than that pedestrian bridge at FIU collapsing in 2018. Overall though I am a 'new urbanist' (I think) and I was very frustrated at Miami Beach returning the second lane to Washington Ave instead of the bicycle lane, and I have mixed feelings about Ocean Drive opening up again for traffic, though from Miami Vice point of view, I guess we gotta have at least one lane there! So to me personally, I don't mind all the new development as long as they don't raze historically/culturally important buildings/areas (and my definition of that is probably stricter than the city's) and build everything with pedestrians in mind instead of cars...
