Why the "pony tail" for Burnett in "Hostile Takeover" and "Redemption In Blood"?

man that feminizes himself was a pretty new thing back then. earrings, pony tail had a pretty bad image in the 80s. those who wore/dressed up like that were often considered as marginal or bad boys. so for a bad guy it was a logical choice. the man that feminizes himself really became common and accepted in the 90s

Made Burnett look more like a bad guy. Created a different look from Crockett. Burnett would do a lot of things that Crockett would not do.

Definitely gave him a more edgy look, and that style was not all that uncommon in that time period among longer-haired men wearing suits. His suit, hair, and expression combined with the Blue Revos and he looked intensely bad.

I agree with Sonny-Burnett.  Such a ponytail wasn't looked upon as taking on a feminine hairstyle at the time.

Don Johnson with the pony tail, as Burnett, looks more masculine than most guys do with a crew cut !

He's a guy you don't want to mess with!

It was a thing back then.  Considered slick and stylish.  A lot of 80s  and early 90s villains had that look.  Then Steven Seagal came along and popularized it even more.

Very much so. His was the short, slicked variety. One of the bad guy trademarks of the time.
