Sorry to be late to the party. As JN said the tires on my car (the "camera car" used in filming the series) are Pirelli P6s - size 235/60VR15. I have no reason to not believe that these are the tires used on the car in the filming. I have owned the car since 1988 and they have always been on the car.The 1981 Corvette came with 225/70R15 tires with 255/60R15 as an option. But the Daytona body has different wheel openings and the 235 tires fill it well. You all have seen the car.

It's true. There is nothing that exists that could top your car. Nothing.It is the extreme pinnacle of what a Miami Vice collector could ever hope to want. Everything else that could be collected will be less than what you have.Not only do you own the worlds best MIAMI VICE collectible, no matter how hard anyone can try, they will forever know that they can't top you. Ever.Let's face it, you sir, own the Holy Grail of real MIAMI VICE collectibles.

Thanks again Cooper&Burnett. If I have the single best collector item, you certainly have the greatest overall collection of Miami Vice memorabilia and literature! I don't have any idea from where or how you accumulated all of the "stuff" you have, but your collection is amazing.

My getting the Camera Car was really the luck of being in the right place at the right time. Carl Roberts received both of the Daytonas owned by Universal Studios in partial payment for building the "stunt" Testarossa. He was then "forced" to sell the Camera Car to a man to whom he had contracted to provide a Daytona replica. When he was unable to supply the Daytona replica, he finally agreed to sell the Camera Car instead. The first owner had the car for 6 months and decided to sell it. He advertised it nationally but did not get it sold. The fellow who had built our house in Augusta, GA heard about the car and went to look at it. He was test driving it when he drove into our driveway. (My wife and I were working in the yard.) He knew I liked cars and asked me if he should buy the car. He showed me the paperwork proving it was the car used in the series, and I told him he definitely should buy it. (Remember, when he bought it, Miami Vice was still on TV in it's 4th year and using the Testarossa.) He kept the car about 6 months and decided to buy a real Ferrari, which he did after selling the Daytona. (A red 348 that I was able to drive later - but I really didn't fit in the car very well. My head was above the windshield with the top off.) Anyway, I had told him I would like the Daytona when he was ready to sell, so he came to me and we bought the car in mid 1988.

Yeash talk about lucky, well I'm just glad the daytona's in good hands. pitty the same cant be said about the testarossa in that damn miami flea market.Come to think of it have you ever just for the hell of it driven it down to miami on holiday?

Once I have figured out how to upload docs and photos to the site (all advice is appreciated) I can start sharing pics and the original McBurnie documentation and literature that came with the car. I bought it from the daughter of the original owner who sold it for him so it has only had 2 owners including me. JN I'd like to take you up on your offer of last year re sources (and pics) for components on the original show car as when I start the restoration I would like to make it as close to the show car as possible. Should I PM you on this? many thanks in advance. CameraDaytona---as COOP said, you do indeed have the Holy Grail of all things Vice (we are not worthy!) and I am only happy I can get somewhat close to that with my car. It is really cool to drive with the top down and watch the heads turn. When having 2 tires replaced to make the long drive home I had someone run up to the car and yell "Hey Crockett". It doesn't get any better than that!

Just to confirm, you have 235/60VR15 size on all 4 tires, correct? I ask because my front and rear tires sizes are different. I agree that the 215s I have on the front look small and the 255s on the rears look huge. Thanks, S-B

These appear to be the same tires on the car when it was photographed at Carl Robert's shop just after filming. I think they were the ones used on the show.

Very nice aussiefan. As an update on the just acquired black McBurnie Daytona, I'm now having Corvette specialists look at the mechanicals for estimates. My first estimate for mechanicals is $5500. Having number 2 early next week. Later will come the complete restoration of the interior to attempt to duplicate the show cars. I love the Daytona. :cool:

Looks like besides the mechanical work you mentioned and some cosmetic work it should be pretty easy to replicate the daytona to a tee with it.Are you planning on adding a smoked plexiglass nose cover that goes over the nose and the headlamps like the one in the show had or are you going to leave the nose the way it is besides moving the badge.I do have one personal touch that I found on another replica that you might like to do to with yours, a cutdown gril that looks closer to the one on an actual daytonahttp://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-def/Ferrari-Daytona-Red-Front-Angle-st.jpghttp://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2812/vlcsnap158788.pnghttp://img708.imageshack.us/img708/8097/daytonareplica1.jpgmy reason being is that the grill on the mv car looked too egg crateish looking to me which is the same thing that bugged me about the front end of the testarossa they got for season 3

I'm planning to leave the drop down headlight covers, as I like their look when driving in the daytime. JN (Jurassic Narc) advised that changing them out would probably be a big hassle in any case as well. You probably noticed the small mirrors that I am definitely going to replace as well and JN helped me here again identify the correct mirrors and source. Thanks very much for the grill pics. I realize you can't see it from my pics, but my grill is very much like the show car. However, it definitely looks like something that was manufactured in the shop. The paint is in very good condition (one of the main draws for me), as is the engine. The interior is very worn and is the Faux Ferrari look vs the MV show car which is a Corvette interior (my education again courtesy of Jurassic Narc). This will require a complete changeout as well as carpeting. The suspension needs work as well as the differential, trans, and power steering. At some point if the Forum is interested I can scan in the original McBurnie paperwork and brochures that were given to the owner of the car that I now have. The brochures are particularly cool. The challenge of living in the Chicago area is finding reputable vintage corvette specialist mechanics who are willing to work on a conversion car.
