They were lied to and believed Hillary was a shoe-in. And I agree.. their public displays on social media (but that's another issue) are annoying and pathetic, as though they never learned to deal with adversity. I like to call it media autism. When you're so absorbed in your own world and your own way of thinking that it comes as a total bombshell to you that others, especially a significant share of the voting population, could have a totally different opinion. And the next step from that is to not only be shocked at that, but to then try to shut up anybody who has the audacity to disagree with you. And the more frivolous and harebrained your views are, the more important it will be to keep somebody from shooting holes into your world view. And the Internet and social media cause that more than anything before it. It used to be that to live a life completely cut off from contrasting outside opinions, you either had to go to a desert island or join an Amish community. Or be homeschooled in rural Idaho. But nowadays, you can surround yourself exclusively with people who share only your opinion and to whom it is inconceivable that somebody else could even so much as have some sort of vaguely good reason to question your entire world view. And I think that's also why universities are having such a tough time exposing students to new and different ideas. Ideas that can sometimes differ radically from your own, without even really being in and of themselves radical. You can spend your whole life in a bubble solely with people agreeing with you. But that simply isn't what a university as a place of science and intellectual debate should be about.
