Lossless fidelity 2.0 audio for the whole series is way better than the compressed version on the Mill Creek, and the 5 discs per season means better picture quality too. I would buy it, but I don’t think my Blu Ray player would play it. 1
jpaul1
maybe not in your living room but makemlv can do the trick. you'll just have to decompress and rebuild the first time you watch your episode. and have a at least a 750 Go DD dedicated for that purpose only. but yesterday i made the test, and it works great. an episode with only one audio track, and no subtitles weights ~ 5.6 Go. you'll need of course a BR reader for PC, but you can have second hand ones for very cheap. got mine (a good LG) for less than 30€. also keep in mind makemkv is free for 30 days. after that you'll have to take out 60$. so you need to do the stuff in less than one month. but it can easily be done, as with a 7700, i decompressed an episode in less than 10 min. and the image is great. the same as a living room reader one. in case you wondered makemkv is very easy to use. you launch the soft, you show it the reader. let it read. then tick/untick what you wanna save you can then watch on your PC with any player, or even on your TV, if you have a Steam link, or similar Edited January 9, 2020 by jpaul1

From the look of the box, that's just a slip in the front, when you take the film off it, the box art underneath will be more like the online image in not having that text I reckon. Sorry for not getting back to this sooner. The order was placed from Amazon (because I relied on the comments from the purchasers to help me zero in on the different version releases). I knew that the most recent release dates from Mill Creek were early October and then late October 2016. Someone mentioned that when they first got the rights to MV, Mill Creek issued a DVD set that was NOT their own remastering---just a duplicate of Universal's previous remastered versions. When I saw this weird new box that I was unfamiliar with, I started to wonder if this is one of Mill Creek's older releases, not Oct 2016. Glades
When you order directly by amazon france it is 129€ (means about 145 Dollar?) Plus shipping fee I suppose, from US to Europe that´s for me usually about 10 Dollar. https://www.amazon.fr/Miami-Vice-Deux-flics-Intégrale/dp/B07JYQNJ98/ref=tmm_blu_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1578646387&sr=1-3 And the BRD is all regions. Shouldn´t this means you can play it with a region 1 player as well? I´m not so used to that issues... Yes to all of this ^ order direct from France and yes it's region free... only thing to not like is the price and the cover art, but if it's your series and you love it, this is the best Blu-ray version yet. But, as ever, do keep your DVDs for the little things that all of the Blu-rays have wrong, which are due to Universal's HD masters - that's not going to change. You want the best there is though and it's absolutely not worth ignoring the whole of the programme in lossless sound and HD picture for a few slips with these masters. And as we say, the Elephant release is the best there is 2

This is a useful comparison - though that's the first episode, which has been fully restored. The others have a welcome improvement in detail, but not the completely different master that first one has. Also, caveat emptor, if you are buying - you may want to look at the Region Free version from Elephant in France as it's got the least problems of any outing of the series on the format so far - and the nicest encodes. Serious fans should still keep their DVDs for minor differences 1

Noggie
I come back to Vice usually about twice every year. I grabbed my Mill Creek set and thought I’d watch something from season 2. I stopped to look at “Prodigal Son” & forgot how rough the picture quality is. It reminds me of “Smugglers Blues” on the DVD set. It was overly dark and washed out. The Blu Ray looks great though. Does “Prodigal Son” look better in any of the other Blu Ray sets? It sounds like the image quality is mostly the same. Had to ask though! All of the Blu-ray sets use the same masters from Universal - weirdly they don't seem to have landed on any streaming platforms that I've heard about; NBC, amazon, starz are all using SD versions as per DVD. I can't imagine that's to preserve disc exclusivity, as Universal didn't even release it on Blu-ray. It's all little labels in the respective territories and Universal don't owe them anything. It's odd. I can't imagine they'll bother to do them all again in 4K or anything, certainly not for disc anyway. But the current masters, except for the first episode, seem to be a rush job that only the labels licensing them are exposing themselves to problems with from fans spotting faults. They are Universal's files, but they seem not have done anything with them other than let others licence them.

Tom
In line with our forum member @SwissTubbs (he posted in the German forum), I put his post here about the upcoming KochMedia "Ultimate MV Series collection" series box including a translation: Set comprises 35 Discs (BluRay) including a Booklet with episode guide! Some facts: - all episodes uncut - Languages: German and English, with full German and English subtitles (all the other international releases did not have any) - English sound in original Stereo-mix and 5.1-Upmix - Complete new encoding of the original (Universal)Master with keeping all original colors and much better quality as with prior other international releases (there has been a lot of discussion about dark pictures and dull colors respectively) - Comprehensive bonus material: Complete bonus material of the DVD-Versionen plus comprehensive Interviews with Michael Mann and a big booklet (lots of photos!) including a cmplete episode guide. - great and sophisticated artwork (see yourself below). These guys did a labor of love and invested apparently a lot of time and money in doing it right for the first time! I will post more info (we are waiting for official confirmation by Koch for release date - allegedly on 1st October) ASAP. I can definitely recommend this box as we can expect to get the best visual/audio material ever published on BluRay.
SwissTubbs
Hello fellow Miami Vice Fans! I have the great honor of presenting you some Facts about the upcoming German Blu Ray Disc Set for Miami Vice. Tom already gave you the release date. I was able to help the label a little with the release. Especially for the horrible situation about the german dubs. But thats not the story for this place of the board. And i could work as an advisor for them too. Thats why i know the final Product already. Positive thing yor all you Guys is that they did english subtitles for the first time ever on Blu Ray! Its the only Blu Ray Disc Set worldwide to have English subtitles now. Which is great but a shame for Mill Creek US and Faboulus Films UK. Anyway...they did even more: As we all know: The Universal HD Masters had some Problems color-wise. A lot of Episodes looked faded. One thing that made the Problem even worse was the Gamma Shift of the Mill Creek Blu Ray Masters. Yes they had a gamma shift. That makes the picture too bright. Together with the faded Masters from Universal that was a big Problem on some Episodes! For Example the Pilot, Calderons Return, Vote of Confidence and others. I can happily report that the Gamma Shift Problem is resolved on the German Blu Rays! More than that: They corrected the colorwise worst episodes and make them look good again finally! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here are some Comparisons of such Episodes with the US Blu Ray: Brothers Keeper: https://slow.pics/c/Hnyg93Xp Calderones Return Part 1: https://slow.pics/c/TEUnHsRo Calderones Return Part 2: https://slow.pics/c/ofMyu3OU Little Miss Dangerous: https://slow.pics/c/Yyy3VQrI Trust Fund Pirates: https://slow.pics/c/HnSBazIk Baby Blues: https://slow.pics/c/v0EtRv1H Vote of Confidence: https://slow.pics/c/3NmcvIeY Finally there is some Color back!!!!!!!!!!! Vote of Confidence looks almost monochrome on the Mill Creek..... What else you can see? Well the Encoding of the Koch Blu Ray is much better.Less artifacts and compression issues! I can show you that with the compression in a special Comparison: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/6625 AMAZING!!!!! Before you go overboard with your emotions i have to remind you that not every episode has such drastic improvements like seen above. Some Episodes have just the Gamma Shift from the US Mill Creek fixed. See here: Cool Runnin': https://slow.pics/c/1eOp19Ho One Eyed Jack: https://slow.pics/c/40sTfE7B No Exit: https://slow.pics/c/JW04SAdk The Great McCarthy: https://slow.pics/c/r3ZMj0Da Out where the buses dont run: https://slow.pics/c/9gRFcJob Payback: https://slow.pics/c/N21LayPy Stones War: https://slow.pics/c/DCeuAjvG Death and the lady: https://slow.pics/c/3TWviGO5 Its still an improvement and looks better but not like other Episodes. But alas..that changes nothing about the fact that the Koch guys did go above and beyond to fix some of the issues we have since the HD Masters. Only a complete new Scan from Universal would make things more better. But i doubt that will happen. The Prodigal Son of course is still the problematic Child in HD Universal scanned that from a weaker film print. Not much a label can do about that. At least it looks better than the US Mill Creek because the gamma shift is not there anymore: Prodigal Son: https://slow.pics/c/14s9jb6E Yeah guess we have to live with that. Like i wrote: Its at least better than the Mill Creek. Here a comparison with the French DVD: https://slow.pics/c/4JWtvhpx Overall the german box set is presenting us the Universal HD Masters in the best quality we have seen. Its really a Definitive Collection for Vice Fans! The Artwork is gorgeous too. As soon as i can i will present you real life pictures of the Boxset. Will probably not before its officially released. For the Extras they ported over ALL the DVD Specials and from the French Blu Ray the 1994 Interview with Michael Mann. Here are the specs: Picture: 4:3 1080p, MPEG-4 AVC, 23,976fps Sound: German DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono German DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo (9 Epsiodes with Dubs from RTL TV Station) English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono (Season 1) English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo (Pilot, Seasons 2-5) English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (All Episodes) Subtitles: German, English Bonus: Interview with Michael Mann from 1994 in 2 Parts: *The Beginnings of Michael Mann (13 Min.) *Michael in Miami: Mann about Miami Vice (16 Min.) Tom
Thanks @SwissTubbs for your update and the comparisons! I have to say that I was blown away when I saw the natural, crisp and colorful picture we´ll get now compared to the milky and grey appearance of the US release that made me think I had cataracts. The effort and eye for detail that Koch put into that box is amazing (e.g. correcting the dropped frame issue on the Universal master in the El Viejo cemetery scene) and they really went to every length possible to make us series fans happy! Maybe we´ll find a few of the 30 still unknown locations thanks to the new great picture quality?! 1

summer84
@SwissTubbs I think it's awesome that Koch corrected the issues regarding color that the US release had and the box art really looks amazing with the vibrant colors in blue and pink, but there was one question I had about the more grain, I noticed in the pictures as you are knowledgeable on this, whether that's normal that it's there, it was less when the picture was brighter. Just wanted to know your opinion on this. Thanks. Edited September 27, 2020 by summer84
