He was ! Sadly they moved away and if I'd known they were going I'd have asked if they wanted to leave Max with us (because HE never liked him..)  I once messaged the girl on fb to ask how Max was but she never answered :( I see they're separated now .....

My cat is rather a thief. than a home invader She takes possession of everything one can sit on or in (boxes, books, bags, suitcases). At least she does not like to drive (the second pic shows what happened to a friend of mine in Australia - I know no cat but close and and a typical home invader there :)

Great photos! We used to have a running joke about one of our horses taking a turn to drive the wagon and when we'd say to him, but you haven't a licence Kractor, he'd say  who'll know that unless we're stopped and I have to produce it? A good thing he never saw this photo!

Cruelty, breeding this type of "fashionable " animal. They can't be real cat lovers who encourage this.

These are the two my wife brought home from the shelter in the last few years.  They’re so much more vocal than any of the other cats we’ve ever had.  The tabby sleeps with her front paws straight out.  Her paws are webbed (and pretty big) and we think she’s part Bengal.  The Bombay is entirely black, pads, whiskers, nose, everything, except the eyes.  She likes to perch on top of everything and watch what’s going on.

I guess I should have said there names so I don’t sound like a heartless bastard! :)

Eli like my Amy is a Bicolor cat :)

Yes! We have a torti as well (that's Belle) and another black and white semi-long hair (Drifter). All 3 were RSPCA rescues who have settled down well to a life of luxury :) We also have a ginger (Leo) who we gave a home to when his 92 year old owner died. Leo has had a few serious health problems and has been operated on by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick (you might have seen his TV programmes, RedDragon!) He's a lovely man, very skilled and innovative (and gives great hugs!!)

Fingers crossed this weekend, RedDragon....................................................................................

Very cute lops.  Years ago we had a white and brown spotted rex and a black mini rex.  My wife got them both from students who couldn’t keep them.  We’ve gotten more than one pet that way including mice and a red-eared slider. :)  I built them a hutch, but we left the door open most of the time and they had the run of our terrace.  They bonded quite well.  I understand many rabbits don’t.

I'm glad you've rescued them. All our cats always have been, and we used to foster for Cats Protection... a sure way of acquiring more :)

My wife is an animal lover for sure and I enjoy the company myself. :)

We got our first two cats just after we were married in the late 90’s when my wife found two kittens in the bushes at her school.  Nobody thought they would survive but they made it.  We’ve had several others in the last 25 years and the other animals mentioned above.  I feel like I’m forgetting some.  :p  She also volunteered at a marine mammal rescue in San Pedro here in the LA area for several years until we adopted our two children.  Now that our kids are grown, she volunteers at an animal rescue in Long Beach, where we live.  Like I said, she’s an animal lover!

Wow! well done both of you! It's so heartening  to read about people who go out of their way to rescue and protect. We have an elderly invalid now (Leo) so haven't been able to consider other than the three younger RSPCA ones we have but  after Leo's day I intend to consider adoptiing one from my facebook friend who rescues and looks after colonies on Crete, virtually single-handed. Many Greeks see nothing wrong in poisoning whole colonies of cats and dogs who are already neutered and fed by volunteers.... My friend tries to home a few abroad (she's not Greek herself but Hungarian) and many posts are updates from those  owners :)  (I once offered to help with flight cost but my friend said never say that publicly as it's important the new owner is committed enough to fund this. I saw what she meant.) Anyway thanks for your sterling work, both of you, in this respect.

If I’m honest, it’s all my wife, though I’ve enjoyed them so much.  Our current black Bombay pretty much sleeps under my arm every night.

That’s hard to hear about the situation in Greece.  One of the strays my wife brought home about 15 years ago was a gray tabby we called Winnie.  We already had two but this little one literally followed my wife home from a walk.  She saw a sucker, I think. :) Then we found out she was pregnant!

It turned out she had feline HIV but she ended up living a long and comfortable life with us.  My wife found a vet who spayed and neutered all six of her kittens gratis and we eventually found homes for them all.

These strays have been the best pets I’ve ever had.  I grew up with several pets but my mom and sister mostly went for purebred dogs.  What pains in the A$$!  The mutts and strays make the best companions in my opinion.  Good for you for doing the same.

I love animals more than humans because they are innocent.

Exactly. I do to, for the same reason. And unlike humans, animals REMAIN innocent. You never see an animal betraying a friend, being spiteful or cruel or deceitful. They also have far fewer laws protecting them so are very much at the mercy of  anyone wishing to abuse them (and there are plenty sadistic people about.) Even the RSPCA....it turns a blind  eye often to illegal hunting, conditions in slaughterhouses and laboratories..very selective I find in what it categorises as cruelty. So I contribute generally to small charities who don't have a  regular income coming in and who haven't lost sight of their original priorities. Sorry that panel below repeated itself! It shouldn't have done!

Let's face it, you've been adopted as bosom buddy of your black Bombay!! It's funny how they choose who to specially attach themslves to. Eli sleeps in the crook of my legs when I lie on my side in bed and if I turn over, obligingly moves and sleeps in the new crook!  Belle's the same and if I lie on my back she'll sleep down my shins.....good thing it's a big bed! You're right, animals enhance your life and I've never regretted a single minute of helping charities with neutering, fostering ,donations etc. What a great job you did with Winnie who followed your wife home!! That's  seven lives you saved there and kudos to that vet who did the spaying free. Human relationships are complicated. Animals provide pure love.

It is. Funnily enough Max never, say, got on your knee or anything like that but he used to love our house. I always had the idea that the guy where he lived didn't care much for him, but I know the girlfriend did. They moved away quite suddenly so I never had the chance to say, if you need a home for Max (they also had a kid and two dogs by then) he can stay with us. Anyway I noticed on fb  last year that they were moving from the fancy place they'd moved to and had split up so we never did find out what happened .  I like your ginger! I have one but he's elderly now and not in good health.

His name is Hannibal and he is already 16 years old, fortunatly in very good health! He is born in our wardrobe and my son knows him all his life. So they are very special with each other.
He´s a great pet, meanwhile a bit like Garfield - eating and sleeping. But  still enjoys life and know, what he wants.

Glad to know he's keeping well! 16 is a good age for a cat. Having said that, we had Bella who was put to sleep at 22 (!!!)- another Cats Protection adoptee- following a serious stroke. Leo has chronic pancreatitis which we have to "manage". He wasn't young when we got him, had hyperthyroid which we cured by getting him the radioactive iodine injection, which does  work instantly though isn't cheap and the cat has to be away from home till the radioactivity goes (an unnecessary precaution but they insist on it so  what can you do?) then he was found to have a degenerated disc in his back and  went to THE top specialist for an operation, worth  every penny. No wonder we're living in the poorhouse ! (joking!) Best wishes to Hannibal! May he live long and prosper :)
