Happy New Year This is absolutely true. I worked in production for a few years in the mid-90’s and there’s a reason makeup and wardrobe make adjustments for every take of every setup. Also the grips adjust lighting specifically for the narrow range of the camera and its movement. Even the stand-ins, whose whole job is to allow lighting and blocking of the scene, wear the same wardrobe and makeup to optimize the final product. I’m not going to weigh in on the appropriateness of positive or negative comments on New Years, but it should be understood that a photograph taken in between takes is simply not comparable to the final product. These photos were certainly taken between takes, because the set goes silent as the camera rolls. They look sad because they knew that the show was over.
