The Ferrari Daytonas of Miami Vice

Not mcburnie, markadian, the first 4 cars were built under the markadian name and they were the only ones to have that name and badging and two of them were the show cars, Car 1 (the stunt car) and car 4 (the camera car)http://www.priceofaddiction.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=32The ReplicasA couple of American car builders and entrepreneurs, Al Mardikian and Tom McBurnie, developed a replicar of the Ferrari Daytona Spyder built around the frame of the C3 Chevrolet Corvette. Al Mardikian was an auto importer who specialized in Grey Market European cars. Mardikian contracted for six Daytona replicars to be built by Tom McBurnie to Mardikian’s specifications. McBurnie used a Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Spyder with serial number 16859 to make the original molds for the conversion. The special car was to be called a MARDIKIAN, and would sell for about $45,000. While Mardikian took his cues from the Ferrari Daytona, he had from the beginning wanted the cars to be unique, and to brand them as his own to be called the Mardikian 350 GTS Turbo.

Eventually, only 4 cars were known to have been produced bearing the Mardikian brand (McBurnie built a fifth car for his brother, but it is unknown if it was branded as a MARDIKIAN). Two of those cars ended up on Miami Vice. They were the first and the fourth car produced.Mardikian's legal problems with importation of Grey Market cars (EPA contended the cars were not being properly converted to US plus that one is missing a headlight on either side compaired to the MV car:Eingefügtes Bild

This car was definately NOT in MIAMI VICE. It wasn't even finished, and didn't even have the interior, it was covered so nobody could see in it. It was just a car from 1984 that Mcburnie supplied to the car show obviously to promote his cars due to the popularity of MIAMI VICE.

plus look closely at the aft of that particualr car as vic pointed out:Eingefügtes Bild350 GTS and the badging on the rear says something other than ferrari which we think is markadian and it fits since Jurrassic said that the production crew were the ones that added the ferrari badging, not markadian.

We think it is probably Car 4 pre Miami Vice. None of the other cars were black when built by Mardikian. And the badging is correct for the Mardikian models.JN

Not fond of the exterior or interior colors of the second one though. :p

Hey now, be nice...some of us have to drive red ones until we can spring for a very pricey paint job :). Actually the red gets a LOT of attention when I drive it.And I'm also thinking...if we've got black plastic license plate lights already and I'm looking at $650 for a real Ferrari one...couldn't I just get the one I've got chromed? Just a thought, would be cheaper than shelling out $650.Also, I do want a Ferrari keychain just for grins. Doesn't Crockett thrown down his keys on the pool table when making a bet in The Great McCarthy? Anyone happen to have a shot of that, I want to see if I can find the same keychain. You guys continue to be an AWESOME source of info, both for the show car details as well as where I can find parts and stuff for my car. Big thanks to all.-Brian W

Those few parts that are unique to the Ferraris and not remanufactured are just out of sight now-a-days. JN

Camera Daytona and I had not said anything about that photo, as we have been searching that seller for more photos that might give more details. Are you anywhere close to Rowley, as I noticed your location? Just curious what he has on the lot or in the shop now. Like you, I've noticed that the website is very out of date.

It would be abit of a drive, about 60 miles, 1 hour and 20 minutes according to the google map thing and I've never knowingly been throught there, plus all of a sudden their website is down so either there having site problems or they may be going out of buisness. so i'll see what I can do but no guaranteesactually I didnt even know it was even in the same state until you mentioned it, that explains the background in the photos, I thought it looked like MA

Actually there are two ways to chrome plastic, and they would be a LOT cheaper than buying a Ferrari replacement! The first is called "vacuum metallizing" and it is the process that was used quite often in the 60s and 70s on instrument panels ( look at a 67 Mustang dash or arm rests - that "chrome" is all vacuum metallized plastic. Olso many exterior wmblems on cars now that look chrome are actually metallized plastic. Here is one location I found that does this :http://www.muellercorp.com/chromeplatingplastic.htm The second method is more expensive but more durable.. It uses actual chrome and you can read about it here:http://classiccars.about.com/b/2008/02/18/now-you-can-chrome-your-plastic-parts.htm

Plus its sitting about an inch or so higher off the ground that the MV car' date=' actually why is that?[/quote'] Actually that is an optical illusion. The tires are 215s and the gap at the top of the wheel wells makes it look like it sits higher. The car actually sits so low that it drags on speed bumps (no joke!).The MV cars sat very low as well, but had 235s on them so the wheel wells looked fuller. Carl Roberts said both cars had some damage on the bottom from the streets of Miami being full of dips (ala the end of HIT LIST). He said the stunt car had taken a beating in the midsection of the frame.

I'm not surprised I did notice some front flare damage on them during S3in particular here in Irish where theres some scrape damage on the right side of the flare and the left flare which normally runs down to the front of the nose is missing:

Hey you are a member of the Daytona owners club in here after all. ;) Let me know if you find a way to chrome the tag light assembly as I agree, that's a lot of cash to spend. btw to your request, have a look at Kavinsky's ebay links above under "little bonus". It was because I was born a car nut and I've always had sort of a fanatasy about having a car made up just the way I like it and the daytona fits that description to a tee and also theres no way in hell I'd be caught dead in something like a Nissian Cube!http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR3vEns3sETDj4ALgroqvWcSs6VERwF48rlbCOkRlJNPOx2ecVi
