I was going to throw this in the Rare 80's thread but I think it qualifies. (1988)

"When Irish Eyes Are Crying"

vhs-ninja on Tumblr

Killing Joke "Love like Blood" 1985.

We must play our lives like soldiers in the field
The life is short
I'm running faster all the time
Strength and beauty destined to decay
So cut the rose in full bloom
'Til the fearless come and the act is done
A love like blood
A love like blood
'Til the fearless come and the act is done
A love like blood
A love like blood
Everyday through all frustration and despair
Love and hate fight with burning hearts
'Til legends live and man is god again
And self-preservation rules the day no more
We must dream of promised lands and fields
That's never fade in season
As we move towards no end
We learn to die
Red tears are shed on gray
'Til the fearless come and the act is done
'Til the fearless come and the act is done

"It's not your war, Gina, it's not your war"

"Little Miss Dangerous"

A Forest by The Cure. (1980) According to frontman Robert Smith he describes it as a story of the pursuit of a girl, which ends in tragedy and has a nightmarish quality to it.

"Stones War"

The Sound - Missiles (1980)

Deep in the country
The factories hide
Where they make the missiles
That run our lives
Who the hell makes those missiles?
Who the hell makes those missiles?
Who the hell makes those missiles?
When they know what they can do
They've got the money
They've got the know-how
It's all above our heads
It's coming down now
Who the hell makes those missiles?
Who the hell makes those missiles? Missiles
Who the hell makes those missiles?
When they know what they can do
Missiles cause damage
And make an eerie sound
Missiles leave carnage
Where there once was a town
Who the hell makes those missiles?
Who the hell makes those missiles? Missiles
Who the hell makes those missiles?
When they know what they can do
Who the hell makes them?
Who the hell makes them?
Who the hell makes those missiles?
When they know what they can do?

No on purpose. I just happened to have seen that episode the other day. Probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Frozen Ghost - “Time Is the Answer” (1987)

Maybe for Tubbs and Valerie in the lost episode?

I better get 20 likes for this!! :)

Still one of my top 3 “SHOULD’VEs”

I’m sharing a different mix this time, but every single element of any version of this song is absolute perfection.

@Marc can I get an amen??

the whole song is amazing but the second half kicks up all the right imagery. (1983)

obvious best parts 4:02 and more understated is the gorgeous bit at 7:08 - 7:30.

Beck and This Mortal Coil have both done orchestral cover versions.

"El Viejo" Released in 1986.

I think the idea of this song is to get away from technology and civilization for a day and get back to basics in the country. I think this resonates with Jake Pearson's character.
