Now the odd thing about this is that the vice car had this very same look when it was first made when it had Michelin XWX VR195-70 tires on it instead of the pirelli p6 235/60 vR15s Eingefügtes Bildyet it lost this look on the showhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5442&stc=1&d=1329192937vs one that does have that angle on it http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5441&stc=1&d=1329192935and then regained ithttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5447&stc=1&d=1329194393probably because the shocks were set to their lowest setting on the show to handle the weight of the camera rig on the rear and reduce the stress on the shocks and the suspension of the carhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5443&stc=1&d=1329192940plus for S2 they had the camera rig rigged up exclusively on the rear behind the rear wheels, not on the front of the car like they did for S1

Now the reason why this is significant is because of the way the back end of the actual daytona is layeredhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5447&stc=1&d=1329194393http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5446&stc=1&d=1329194391its rigged up in such a way that the top bit is caught by the light and then it slopes down at a sharp angle and then changes direction towards the tail pipes and by having the back end of the car lowered it not only distorts this effect and makes the back end look smaller but it also makes the car look more corvette like as the C3 vette has this sort of sunk in like look to its rear endwhere its got a straight almost 110 degree angle to ithttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5448&stc=1&d=1329194422vs the daytonas basically 70 degree angle slope on the top bit and then a reverse of this on the bottom and by having it lowered it removes the sloping effect making the back end look smaller and more vette like in shape, making it look more like a replica than the rear thing.http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5449&stc=1&d=1329194815plus it also makes the car seem featureless from behind as it hides the tail pipes from the light as well

This shot appears to be a Season two, and lots of shots in Season two look like they were shot from this angle.

Maybe I missed your point but to me it appears the rear ends slope in opposite directions as the Vette slopes down and in and the Daytona slopes outward, both as viewed from top to bottom. Not getting you ...are you also comparing the Daytona replicar to the Ferrari Daytona?

If you're comparing/contrasting the rear end lift in these pics it appears to me that pic #3 (not the show car) has the larger wider tires similar to mine and that could explain much of the lift you see in that one. I maybe could expect that the weight of the cameras and mounts might shift the car's position on the springs somewhat if they are heavy enough but I don't know their weight. Or perhaps when tires were changed during the run of the show someone may have tinkered with the sizing when they were replaced due to wear or damage. That might explain some shift.

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXzDDTPz9XY

http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5504&stc=1&d=1330311424and actually looking at the back end of the daytona there on many episodes it looks like the tail pipes are shoved in from the sides to maybe make room for that camera rig and actually looking at the daytona today it looks like it may have had flexibile pipes on it that can be moved as looking at this photo they seemed to be angled oddly http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5447&stc=1&d=1329194393as the right sides of the pipes are facing down towards the ground, like they could be moved by hand almost and the pipes do sort of almost have the look of a corigated straw from a few of the shots cooper posted of it at the races back during S1so they might have had the same properties as the mirrors that when needed they could be angled out of the way for the camera rig.

Not getting you ...are you also comparing the Daytona replicar to the Ferrari Daytona?[/quote']yeah I'm compairing it to the actual daytona, that by having it sit lower it seems to change the angle of the rear so it looks more the like backends slopped inwards like on the corvette vs the actual daytona with its slightly hopped up rear end where when the light hits it its divided in the middle towards the top and the bottom giving it a different look where as when it sits lower the light only really hits the top, hence why the tail pipes seem to be so hard to pick up on the camera making it look kind of featureless vs now and back in 81 where it seemed like the tail pipes were much more promenant even though really they arent.

I'm not sure but I think the tires are about the same for both the front and the rear on the camera car looking at the shot of it now and back then here:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5505&stc=1&d=1330312521as they look to be the same size on the front and the rear' date=' although they are big tires to begin with and were probably changed over to the pirelli tires for safety reasons plus theres a mention of new rubber in out where the busses dont run so it might have been changed for the S2 overhaul.and yeah I mean when you think about the kind of wear and tear it had on the show the shocks could have eventually needed to be replaced towards the end of the second season when they knew they were going to be switching over to the white flying hairdryer next but I do think during S1 the car didnt sag in the back as I dont remember it looking like that in S1 and you can kind of see that here:

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIuVwTAGhQ4&feature=related

so maybe the shocks were on the way out at that point or maybe they were another victim of the buddies car chase there, they really should have used car 1 for that scene.but also looking at jurrasics shot there maybe the camera rigs were mounted around the rear suspension with those straps and hell maybe they left some of the mounting materal on it during filming to quickly take the cameras on and off for some scenes and thus it always seemed to sag because of the weight.I mean there could have been a pivot point mounted on the rear of the car and they just left it on during filming hence the sagging and why its not there anymore.hell you can even sort of see that in Jurrasics shot from El Viejo there as the bulk of the camera rig seems to be towards the rear wheels:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5463&stc=1&d=1329268754and Jurassic thats a very cool shot too.

Indeed its right up there with my favorite shots of it like this one from out where the busses dont run:Eingefügtes Bildactually it looks more or less exactly like the same shot only closer.

Figured I'd update this as I've been going over some final details with the body and I've noticed a few interesting things that i'd like to post aboutpart of the reason for the delay is because I've been redoing and cleaning up my home. most notably my bedroom which I'm still working on and I havent even gotten to the garage yet which badly needs to be cleaned up and out, plus theres mice in there somewhere so its not exactly a job I'm looking forward to.and I've been working on my first viewing of the season 3 episodes as I just finished street wise although I have skipped around beyond S2 to watch the episodes I know are good although I have to admit on my first viewing of contempt of court I'm starting to see why someone thought the 3rd season was the last real season of miami vice. As it really didnt feel like vice with that episode, hell it was more law and order than anything else.although I may just skip ahead to The Big Thaw just to see Castilo bash the phone pieces, that might be worth itanyways I think I found out what happened to the windshield frame to make it look abit rougher in S2 than it did in S1 as it looks like it was actually sticking off of the windshield in this shot from tales of the goat:Eingefügtes Bildhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5643&stc=1&d=1333852602vs the little used in S2 Car 1 windshield trimEingefügtes Bildand I think what may have happened is the toll booth gate wasnt actually supposed to fall down during this chase where we know the left front flare got some scrape damage from than chase

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU964Wtmkkc

at 0:43 for the scrape and 1:52 for the toll boothso I think what happened is that it hit it hard enough so that the snaps that hold that trim piece to the chrome on the top may have broke off in the middle and thus it couldnt be mounted ontop of the chrome like it is on the normal vette and thus carl or someone else actually stuck it on below the chrome hence why it looked so rough in the close ups of S2 as it didnt actually fit that well anymore from the damagehttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5645&stc=1&d=1334039760and afterwards he did trim it so it fit better after the car was retired from the showhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5647&stc=1&d=1334039763 hence why it looks better now than it did in S2, yet it still seems like the chrome is much more promenent than it is on the normal vette, unlike it was in S1http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5646&stc=1&d=1334039761anyways what prompted me to think this was actually because of a video of ace's daytona and yes its abit silly so just take that at face value

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQqf6b99Xwg

as its sitting higher than the testarossa, which honestly I wasnt expecting as I thought the daytona sat as low if not lower than the countach from the chase which to my knowledge is about the same hight as the TR, so it got me thinking maybe that wasnt supposed to happen with the toll booth gate and where else could that damage had come from as that was the only thing that could have hit the trim during S2 and they made a point never to reuse the shot of the hood past the pilot which is kind of odd actually

So what I'd like to shoot for is to go with the stock window frame painted a semi gloss as straight gloss in all the forms I've seen just looks too strong for it and that's the key thing about ace's car there, he's using a matt black carl roberts windshield frame hence why it looks very close to the vice car during S1 there.and have the chrome ontop of the windshield vinyl wrapped as to be less at odds with the sleak body as it is actually possibile to go for a gloss vinyl body wrap nowadays so they should be able to do one that one trim part and maybe even the the sunvisor mounts to an extent, the one thing the carl roberts ones dont coverEingefügtes Bild

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkV7aeLGd4g

please ignore the first comment on the video, its tasteless to say the leastas the more I thought about it the more I realized it was the chrome that just seemed at odds with the car for me as during my favorite shots as that was the one bit about the car that wasnt visibile Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildplus if I just have the chrome vinyl wrapped I dont have to worry about that flimsy trim piece coming undone and it actually might make the windshield seem abit sleaker without it as it seems like its not as sleak looking as the rest of the windshield there Eingefügtes Bildas its been doubled up to match the muscular hood of the normal vette which the daytona replica no longer has Eingefügtes Bildif all else fails I'll just go with the stock set up painted a semi gloss to match the body and just have it covered up with the vinyl or even just dark it out like on this vette Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildhttp://corvette.canney.net/webvettes/customized/c0025/index.htmlwhich has this treatment on its chrome mixed in with the painted to match the body semi gloss windshield trim http://www.corvettemagazine.com/2006/january/blackout_touchup/blackout_touchup.aspunlike this one:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5651&stc=1&d=1334042394and you can see when going with a bright color you always want to go with a color that matches the body here vs basically the same car with the blacked out one:http://corvette.canney.net/webvettes/customized/c0066/index.htmlalthough I do want a little chrome, from the sunvisor mounts on the back past the chrome line and the tab in the middle here, http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5650&stc=1&d=1334042393just not the bit that connects to the windshield on the top as it makes that top bit seem bigger than I care forplus on the actual vette's the painted T tops covered that up completely and it was only when they were off that you could see the chrome vs on the convertibile where the top was always downhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5649&stc=1&d=1334042392http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5648&stc=1&d=1334042390and you can kind of see that here:

hence why I for some reason really liked the look of the top up in an odd way during cool runningEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildanyways two more things and I'll move onto my ideas for the interior, namely with the mirrors as I may have found two interesting alternatives to the tornados and the reflectors on the rear aft quarters but basically with me as I'm a kid of the 1990's I grew up when cars no longer had sever matt and gloss color differences on them so that's kind of my key preference with the daytona that I want to go with, I want to go with a black metallic without those color differences and the chrome ontop rigged up to match the windshieldand its kind of funny I could tell even with the testarossa in its stock color that the spoilers on it were painted matt black and it did kind make it seem overly boxy even then:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5655&stc=1&d=1334044144http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5656&stc=1&d=1334044147http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5654&stc=1&d=1334044143although when used correctly they can look good like on this green 308 and the vice carhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5653&stc=1&d=1334044141http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5646&stc=1&d=1334039761as color differences only look good if there proportioned correctly like on those cars and like on the mad max interceptor:

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=oawspa5EVzs

http://www.madmaxmovies.com/mad-max-interceptor/index.htmlunlike on the TR, where they made the most important part seem too small by having it painted a matt instead of a gloss.its just that I think because I'm going to go with a metalic its going to have to be a semi gloss plus it'll match the body abit better when the light hits it like with the yellow one there which will be key when going for a metalic there.although I think I can get away with having the mirrors matt like on this one:http://mrmikes.com/corvettevern.htmalbiet honestly I'm kinda love hate with the chrome there as it makes the windshield seem bigger ontop than the rest of the windshield for me, yet at some low angles I like it like here:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5652&stc=1&d=1334043592it's something I'll have to play by ear and in person as the camera can make things seem smaller or bigger than they actually are. kind of perplexing really plus we're talking about 25 year old film here and the transfer to dvd seems to have made some of the earlier seasons seem kind of washed out so it could be that that also made the chrome seem a little off too as well part of the second season seems like its earth tone based because of the wash out.

Now this is something I overlooked for awhile until I noticed that a few cars, my rowley corvette example that I really like in particular didnt have.Eingefügtes Bildnow the thing about it is that it looks like something is missing, yet it also looks kind of cleaner too and to me it looks like all its missing are the alfa romeo door handles the Vice car, roberts cars and the mcburnies have that I like and I think I'd like to shoot for what the volo car has with no reflector/light (I'm not quite sure if its a light or a reflector) and the alfa door handles:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5662&stc=1&d=1334125096for the sake of not having an extra spot for dirt to build up on plus the rear aft does look a little cleaner and sleaker without it to me, although I do kind of like the red reflector/lights look at nightEingefügtes Bildso maybe try something a little different as I'm shooting to have the turn signals on the outside like on the rowley there:Eingefügtes Bildunlike the vice car in the show that had red light next to red tail light that showed up in the pilot scene when the running lights were red instead of yellow past the pilotEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildvs yellow on the outsidehttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5659&stc=1&d=1334125091so why not try a yellow reflector for it like its rigged up on the testarossa's front end next to the turn signalsEingefügtes Bildhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5661&stc=1&d=1334125094and its also red for the rear end as those are next to the brake lightshttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5660&stc=1&d=1334125092which might be an interesting inbetween of the two, although I really kind of prefered the red running lights of the pilot vs the yellow ones past that episode so while it might look better in the daytime it might be pointless at nightand well you've already got the turn signals that illuminate the front ends of the car when making a turn so it may be kind of pointless to have some extra yellow light on the rear when making a turn.I dont know but its one of the things I'd like to experiment with that I dont think anyones tried yet with the daytona replica

The reason you don't see the amber lights in the rear on the side (at least in the US) is that it is a DOT requirement. Amber front, red rear so that it is apparent which direction the car is facing by the side marker lights. Same with boats and airplanes--Red to the left, green to the right. All the McBurnie cars have the rear red marker light (not a reflector only) which the Roberts bodies have no side marker light to the rear. Also, Roberts' later cars had the actually Ferrari type door opener device (a handle on top of the door) and many Rowley cars use the top mounted Vette type door handle, which also leaves the door panel cleaner looking.

Hmm honeslty I think I'd probably go with the setup you have as I really prefered the red running lights on the outside at night from the pilot there vs the yellow it had on the rest of the shows runand besides its not like it would confuse anyone to have the turn signals on the inside as its still on the left or right side of the car and if it bugs me and its abit troublesome to keep clean ill just switch it around and delete the side running lights like on the rowley and the volo car there.and with the door handles I really like the alfa door handles as its much easier to see and it adds to the car to me and that was always kind of one of the things I snickered about with the TRyou know where are the door handles?

and how the hell do you open it without scratching the paint up looking for it if your wearing Jewlery, your watch is hanging loose or if your in a hurry to catch a bad guy and theres hardly any light where you parked your car?hell maybe that was one of the reasons why they went for bright white with it, just so they could find the damn door handle in a hurry before the bad guy got away.and personally atleast with the Berlinetta Boxers before it the door handles were roughly in the same place they were on the actual daytona so it'd be a hell of alot easier to find them in the dark on the forerunners of the TR vs the actual tr

plus theres a reason why they still use silver/chrome door handles in modern cars (atleast on the inside) as they show up in low light a hell of alot better than bodycolor or interior color door handles.

Well at least your trim looks good around the window. The last car I looked at to purchase had a fibreglass window surround and it wasn't even bolted down! He had no clips for a convertible top nor was there any hardware for visors?!?!?Car was very rough!

Well, if you can get into it right, anything can be done to make it how it needs to be... Yet, the color kinda doesn't do anything for me.... Mike

I have yet to make the switch on mine but I plan to, assuming local/state ordinance allows me to have amber for running lights in Illinois. Red are braking and turn signal lights, I believe, on Car 4.

Well we don't want to hijack Kavinsky's thead too much here but as we discussed there is a need to test fit and finish as well as maybe underlying issues. Seems the seats are a bit funky too.

that's a bizzare one but the more interesting thing is what's behind the seats there' date=' that looks like the stock corvette convertibile top cover rather than the tonau cover they traditionally havethe back panel he opens on this one at 3:35

hmm wonder how well it works, well how well it would work if the windshield was complete! it looks like its missing the top half of the frame and that the only thing holding it in is the carl roberts windshield trim piece there.
If there is someone from Belgium or living near Belgium' date=' or whoever has the money for shipping costs etc., I found a nice Burnie on mobile.de: The Burnie
its a nice looking car, pitty there isnt any more photos of it namely with the wire wheels as it looks like its got the same style knock offs as the vice car but without the center sticker and the tires are higher although about the same thicknessEingefügtes Bildand I'm curious about the mirrors on this thing as they look like their the bullet type chrome ones but they've been painted a matt black from the look of italso I forgot I had this but the TR and the Countach are basically the same height, so the daytona and the daytona replicas are higher than the TR and the countachhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5670&stc=1&d=1334288738

yeah those are some odd seats too.

Yeah, I also wish there were more photos of that beauty. It is a very good price, 29.000 Euros, years ago they had cost about 40.000 Euro. You think the mirror had a flat black paint? I don't know exactly, but so it looks like it is the original chrome one of the real Daytona.Wish I had the money and space to get it.

Eingefügtes BildI must say...the placement of the marker lights on the quarter panels are etrocious!!! YUK!Is that a European thing? That is DEFINITELY not the placement for the lights.

Eingefügtes Bildand I'm curious about the mirrors on this thing as they look like their the bullet type chrome ones but they've been painted a matt black from the look of it
The cone mirrors that originally came with my car are matte black as they are made of rigid plastic rather than metal. So it appears the car here may have the same one as mine.

Maybe we are talking semantics here or possibly could be some darkening with age as my lenses are now at least 24 years old and those in the show run were much newer. Don't think too much has changed in coloration though. Mine look identical to all the pics I've seen of Car 4 in any case. Jurassic or CameraDaytona can confirm this but believe I'm correct in that the amber are only for running lights and are always on (when the lights are on), while the red are for breaking and turn signals. I will change mine to lineup with Car 4 as it was used in the show at some point as my goal is to get as close to the look of the car as it was used in the show. One significant exception may be the headlight doors (thinking of keeping them) as I do think they add to the streamlined look when closed and the lights are not in use.

That is actually the American version of the side marker light on the rear. Never have been fond of it myself, and the tail lights are all red.
