lol to each his own, I have a strip of road I used to bash the old car around here that was just like that, the thing was right at the limit at 40 mph on a swooping curvy road in the back woods here.god that was fun, shoot up the hill and brake hard on the way down while powering through a sharp right turn and then power down a curvy small road till I hit the main road, one thing though it was right around a spot where 3 side streets converdged so I figured It'd be best to quit while I was still ahead so I havent done that for quite some time.

Jurrasic when I was looking through the photo gallery at photos of your dash I came across this:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3905&stc=1&d=1308674082and while I know it says 1993 on it and it was posted by captain kapri (sorry if I spelled that wrong) you did mention your car used to have circular headlamps so is this your car before the headlight change?also do you have any sort of higher up shots of the tonau cover on yours, it looks like yours has a slacked tonau cover like the camera car had in the pilot http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3906&stc=1&d=1308674307and I'm kinda wondering what that looks like close up combined with the season 2 seats without the headrests it had in the pilot

That is my car. Taken in 2006. I don't know where the 1993 came from. Yes It had round headlights then. These are the only shots I could find on short notice.JN

License plate lightPhil,do you know where I can find a license plate light? I might have already asked you, if so please disregard this. My trunk lid has the same recessed area for mounting it as other kits out there as well as the real mccoy. If anybody else reading this has one or knows where I can find one, even if its trashed out, please let me know. There are new old stock ones out there for $650 but there is no way I'm paying that much, I'll fab one myself out of something I find in the junkyard, maybe braze something together and send it out to chrome if I have to.I had heard that there was an Alfa Romeo unit that was very similar?ThanksEric

Very hard to find and not cheap. My new mechanic tells me he has access to deals on Ferrari parts so am going to tap him next week on this and another item. If I get a deal I'll let you know also.

I may address the mirrors when I change out the door handles. Since the mirrors need to be changed out anyway (Vitaloni Prontos' date=' not Tornados), I won't do anything till the car is in the shop. There are far too many issues associated with tire size to change the tires for now. Transmission, rear end and speedo, to name a few. The floating is most likely due to the front suspension, rather than the size of the tires. The car will certainly run out a lot faster, but I enjoy pushing it around curves and corners in the mountains. There is a place near Dawsonville called the Devils Elbow that is just too much fun. And that's a place wher 35 is fast, your holding second gear and trying to keep at least one right wheel in the ditch so you don't loose it!!![/quote'] JNAre you saying you have Prontos and want the Vitalonis or vice versa Donl think changing the tire size will have that big an impact on the trans or speedo. Unless the changes are really significant. Am going to reduce my 255s in the rear and increase the 215s in the front. Sounds like you have a great track to run your car...still looking for a good one for mine..S-B

It is a Momo' date=' but I can't recall the model or size. It was one of the first things I added back in 2005. I have the chrome piece for the top of the windshield, but to put it on I will have to either purchase a number of parts or do some modifications to the trim on the car now. As far as the interior goes, I will eventually modify the door panels. The car operates at 180-190. It rarely gets over 200, now that the cooling system works correctly. And the A/C blows cold. With the top up the car will cool down, but I seldom drive with the top up. With the top down the A/C will blow cold, but is pretty much sucked right out.JN[/quote'] Taking mine in next week as its supposed to be around 90F to a new mechanic to have a look at my AC and engine cooling. At 90F my engine temp still got to 220F last week so want to know if my guage may be mis-calibrated or if there is a real cooling issue. And my AC is still not blowing cold for me... more to do.

I have the Vitaloni Prontos, which look similar to the Tornados. The show cars had the Vitaloni Tornados.

I saw the smaller version of these in your gallery and I found them when I was looking for the volo car photos on there by putting in miami vice daytona on flickand its got your licence plate number on it. you showed me a photo of the rear without that blotted out once and I told you it might be a good idea to do just that from now on with your photos and thats why I think you may want to contact the owner and ask him to either blot out the number or remove the rear photo of it' date=' just as a precaution.[url'] Miami Viceactually what is that photo right infront of your car, not the one with DJ and PMT on the hood but the other one? did you get that with the car?http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluevette/4610031531/in/photostream/

Good move considering how badly they mangled up that last cooling job at the old shop, it could very well be miss calibrated.

Find out on Thursday. But the AC is still an issue and engine is running a bit rough.

Wow, you have a good memory. No worries about the plate though as it is registered to the former owner and not me.

Yes I did get the 2 framed photo shots with the car and a file folder full of McBurnie literature and documents related to the build and sale of the car to the original owner. Think I should scan and post this stuff in here somewhere? Would anyone be interested?

Yeah I think so since its pertaining to the build of the car and its something that I dont think Cooper has come across either.Since it's usually that kind of stuff that is the most interesting since it tells you what the person orderer it with and what options chose and what he could of if he wanted to and your car was optioned out with a racecar suspension and a stock street cars motor, with a 4 barrel carb and a 3 speed auto rather than something like a 454 with a 4 speed manual which was one of the options according to the mcburnie stuff on coopers thread:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/showthread.php?1834-RARE!!-FERRARI-DAYTONA-INFO!-(McBURNIE-COACHCRAFT-REPLICA)Eingefügtes Bildwhich is kinda odd in a way, why did he spring for the race suspension but not a more powerful motor?that's the kinda stuff that can sometimes give you a good idea of the owners personality since these daytonas were custom to begin withIt also could also help us figure out what could be causing some of the trouble you've been having with yours, it could be missing a key piece of equipment that it had when it was brand new that was just lost over time.and heres an example of what I mean about interesting literature adding to the coolness of a car.

Yeah getting all the build and sales literature from the original owner was a very attractive part of the deal and knowing it was a one-owner car. Need to get it scanned in. Think the motor is plenty powerful for the car, and you would too if you drove it. The overheat stuff will get resolved and I may eventually need a new radiator. Even the rough running could be contributing to the overheat issue if the timing is off for example.

Whoooo, just finished up watching the pilot and heart of darkness again for my thread and the differences between the seats of Car 4 in the heart of darkness and the Pilot are massive, and I mean that literally.Eingefügtes Bild it looks like the guy who made the interior used the normal seats that were on the car past the pilot as a BASE for the seats, and not the actual SEATS themselves and used it as some sort of a frame for them (making them look similar to the rowley corvette seats and the ones on the actual daytona)Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildto the point where it stuck out from the base of the seat by a good quarter to half an inch and in addtion to that base it had a headrest that stuck out ontop of that too and there was faint, and I mean really faint white stiching on it, and it looks like it expanded the overal diameter of the seat by a good half an inch on either side making it fill up much more of the interior than the stock seats, which is the reason in the pilot why I couldnt see the area behind the seats even though the tonau cover was gone when he confronted his partner, basically this plus a headrest built ontop of the seat itself instead of above it, that stops a quarter of an inch from the edgeEingefügtes Bildand ontop of that the car originally had a mirror like I described in my thread that iId go for instead of the stock corvette unit that it's got now, except that it looks like it was mounted from both the top of the winscreen and the middle of it where it is now on the actual car, you can see it as soon as they zoom in on Crockett sitting in the Daytona when he confronts his partner:

Eingefügtes Bildhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3941&stc=1&d=1308723446http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3942&stc=1&d=1308723447Sorry I dont have any more photos of this since I dont have my ripped version of most of S1 now so I was going off of my S1 dvd, hence the watching of both episodes and why I'm putting this down in words instead of photos and they did change the tail pipes over to where they were in the rest of the series for the heart of darkness so I was wrong about that point although they were as straight as an arrow for the pilot like here and the running lights were red instead of yellow.Eingefügtes Bild

Forgot to mention something else in the pilot when Crockett is talking to gina on the boat after learning Tubbs isnt who he says he is he mentions the two boats, but not the daytona supporting the theory that crockett may have had access to more than one car or thing for his cover.

Anyways I was looking at that film Speed Zone (1989) today and the Volo boys may have the actual car from that movie' date=' but as for the theory that it may be the MV car.......the body is wrong, the headlights are set up backwards, inners shining in the dark instead of the outer headlights the mirrors are wrong, the nosepiece is a weird piece of work with two bubles above and below the ferrari badge, probably to cover the screws, and about the only thing that looks MV like are the seats which are trimmed properly and maybe the dash that looks vaguely mv like and the correct zenith wheel caps that were the same color as the one on the show but other than that its missing its tail pipes, and I dont mean that in a light sense there was NO tail pipes on the thing in the film, and the tire size is screwed up badly on that thing, the front tires are too small and the rears are barely adequate, not to mention the suspension was hopped up for the entire filmand the guy who bought that thing before the volo guys probably added the mirrors on it to say it was the MV car and probably put the screw holes in it himself, hell about the only thing that says that thing was in speedzone are the incorrect for the MV car size tires!oh and volo themselves added the MV correct door handles to it, in the film it had the rowley corvette imitation ferrari doorhandles.and its still got that screwed up unbalanced stance from the film about the only thing that really says it may have come from Carl Roberts are the zenith wire wheel caps that are what the MV car had on it when the car arrived in TN for its retirement that it now has. Don Johnson? yeah right![/quote']I believe that the Volo car was definitely used in the movie "Speed Zone". They have paperwork from Roberts showing the VIN number when it was shipped to CA for the movie. I don't have any doubt that it was one of the two cars used in "Speed Trap", but I do not believe that it was ever used in the Miami Vice series. The serial number is not correct and the body is not correct. The dash is actually not like the Mardikian cars. The "third brake" pedal is not like the MV cars. Etc, etc.The Stunt Car was disassembled by Carl Roberts when he received it from Universal Studios. His initial plan was to use the frame, etc. to build the stunt Testarossa - which did not work due to the mid-engine configuration of the Testarossa. As we all know, he ultimately used a Pantera chassis. I doubt that the Stunt car ever went back together. No one (that I know of - including Carl Roberts) knows what happened to the parts from the car. Carl thinks that parts of the body went on another chassis that he got from a friend. I am pretty sure that the Stunt Car does not exist as a complete car. Some parts may be on other cars, but there is no way to identify them as being a part of the Stunt Car.

Yeah it was just one of those things where I decided to take another look at the speed zone daytona being that I watched the film a few times when I was a kid for the countach and oddly never noticed the daytona, little wonder after putting all of the differences between the MV cars and this one down on paper and the pilot and the episode right after it to see all of the differences between the cars for my thread and to get some inspiration from them, the Volo car in its current form has a full tonau cover that goes all the way to the floor and I was just like hold on a tick theres no way in hell this was the MV car, although the dead giveaway that it's the speed zone car is the odd impossibile to see on the screen muffler set up and the really odd tires it has which are still exactly like it was on speed zonein particular I was trying to figure out why I liked the seats of the car in the pilot more over its in the rest of the series look. Now dont get me wrong I like the seats the daytona has but something looked off about it to my eyes vs its pilot look and now I know what it was and it wasnt just the headrest, it just looked more full and filled up the rest of the interior, plus I really like the look that headrest gave the car from afarEingefügtes Bildthis particular shot in the pilot is the one that made me go: what the hell is that thing?! I want one! and then the Phil Collins scene right after that cemented it with me, specifically this shothttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4004&stc=1&d=1309297953hell if it wasnt for the MV car I probably would have shown no interest in other ferrari's to begin with! I was born and bred a Lamborghini guy and old man ferrari or atleast the way he ran his company really seemed like an uptight asshole compaired to Ferruccio Lamborghini who seemed to be a really nice guy, hell it was his humility that allowed for the Mirua to be created in the first place, the car that cemented his legacy in automobile history.I just really wish we could have seen more of Car 4 in its semi original form like in the pilot (semi original because of the ferrari badging that was put on it for the pilot) I really want to find out more about those custom seats it had and the weird thing is that there's no sign of the stuntcar AT ALL in "The Heart Of Darkness" like they were in the midst of acquiring car 1 at the time and decidied to reupholster the seats of car 4 and move the badge further up the nose just to see how it looked along with the tail pipes and the rear running lights, and probably the MOMO Veloce which from a few brief close ups of the interior it looked like it had at that pointalthough maybe the seats took up too much space in the cabin and made the interior feel more cramped, in addition to being different from the seats of car 1 or maybe it just would have cost too much money and time and effort to have another set of custom seats made for Car 1 vs just making another set of corvette seats with a few custom touches made up for Car 4.and that is why paperwork and photographs are key on any custom thing, car or otherwise because things change overtime, especially when changing handsI will say this much though about the volo car, the only thing I think that came off of the MV car thats on there is the spinners with the yellow and silver zenith logos and thus Camera I think you oughta call the Volo guys up and ask for your spinners back!
