Yes it's a great page. So much history recorded! He's following me as well. I understand he wants good pictures and that a camera can be expensive, but I'm not sure why a camera phone for instance isn't enough for instagram photos or a cheaper digital camera?

Yes I noticed earlier  real.miami posted that he wasn’t getting the support or money he needed for a new camera and was going to leave Instagram and take his photos with him- but I notice he’s deleted that now.

Good to know, it would have been a real shame otherwise. With all those great photos of Miami in one place.

I agree - some real gems there on realmiami.

Your posts are good too - I hope you notice I like them from the South of France.

The cover of Jan Hammer’s late 1987 “Tubbs and Valerie” single featured the Park Central Hotel (behind JH on the cover here) on Ocean Drive, Miami Beach and a building next to it which has gone. :hippie:

@airtommy - reference my post above I’ve been studying the Jan Hammer cover and would like your opinion. Obviously the building behind JH is the Park Central Hotel however now I’m not sure if the building to the left was the Heathcote - structurally features-wise it looks slightly different. Now I’m wondering if for the JH cover they clumped some buildings together which weren’t necessarily next to each other?

The other i reason I say this as on the JH cover to the right of the Park Central is empty whereas The Imperial/Casablanca @650 Ocean Drive was there in 1987 as Today?  (See below).

Do you have any thoughts ?

I didn't notice it before, but now that you pointed it out I see that the windows on the Hammer cover don't look anything like the windows on the Heathcote.

And also next to the Park Central is empty whereas The Imperial/ Casablanca (“Home Invaders”, “Dutch Ocean”, “Asian Cut”) at 650 Ocean Drive was there in 1987. Some Im thinking these hotels were clumped together for the Hammer cover.

This was sent to me today a current day view from Aria on the Bay, at Margaret Pace Park,  looking out to the Venetian Cswy and 1000 Venetian Way (“Heart of Darkness”, “By Hooker By Crook”).

Interesting as it’s off Biscayne Bvld in Miami at NE 18th St just one block from the Doubletree Hotel rooftop we see in Season 4s “Death and the Lady” so a similar view.

Espanola Way in "Cool Runnin".  It looks rather ugly to me.

And here it is today.  It looks so much better in pink.

pink is cool for sure, but white looks more realistic. although, all the spanish architecture isn't authentic. but an artistic effect

a brief history of Espanola Way and the Clay Hotel:

https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/espanola-way/

including this snippet about Miami Vice:

" ... Linda Polansky’s radical idea to give the Clay Hotel a peach hue occurred at nearly the same time Mel Bourne happened to the area. As the production designer of the new show Miami Vice, Bourne showed an intense interest in Espanola Way. After scouting the area, Bourne returned with Michael Mann and Don Johnson. The team sat down with Polansky and told her about their idea. “They explained to me what Miami Vice was going to be. At the time I wanted to paint my building peach and since Bourne was the set designer, I asked if there were some peach colors he would like to recommend,” Polansky exclaims. “He gave me a book with 1,000 different colors of peach!” Soon afterward, the group quickly became friends and Espanola Way became the site of the first and last episodes of the show, as well as 10 episodes in between ..."

'...Espanola Way, was modeled after artistic and romantic Mediterranean villages in Paris and Spain'. search the error :)

For fans of Miami Beach and Art Deco I found an interesting Miami Beach architectural guide.  It contains info about 1,834 places and 6,967 photos. You can look up Vice sites that still exist.  It's got a lot of features and it takes a while to learn how to use it.   I was interested in finding more about the Chase Federal Savings and Loan at 1100 Lincoln Rd.  It appears twice in Season One’s Calderone’s Return (Hit List) drive-by scene from 26:38 to 26:40 and later in the background of a scene from 26:48 to 28:06.  Typing in 1100 Lincoln Road in the search box revealed a number of pics when I clicked on a pic I got the history, style etc.

For some reason I can't get the link to work but if you type in this address into the web address bar at the top of your browser it will come up.

Great video.  When you walk in you feel like you're back in the 50s.  Still the premier hotel on the Beach.  A friend worked there.  Watch on Vimeo.

Yes I agree - there was outcry by locals but it was demolished anyway. We see the best view of it in 1987s “Deat and the Lady “ from Season 4.

Another nice angle, current day, to supplement the photo I posted here yesterday.

Here we are above the Venetian Cswy in Miami looking to 1000 Venetian Way(“Heart of Darkness” / “By Hooker By Crook”) looking to the Venetian Islands ( and “Bought and Paid For” territory)

Yes the mural was a key scene but the actual hotel appears twice briefly,  from the Beach in Rites of Passage, and you see the front in Dutch Oven.

You mean the Fontainebleau Hilton Jim?

We also see briefly from The Barcelona terrace in the opening credits of “Definately Miami”.

Nice current day shot almost exactly as the opening Miami shot in the teaser of the Series finale “Freefall” in 1989 covering the northern end of Brickell.

when i see this i canno't resist to make a small OT. A couple of years ago i decided to go to the beach. so, i took internet and checked which were France best beaches. a beach came up. it was Le canet plage. it was in french top 5 best beaches. so as it was only 300 km from where i live i decided to go spend a couple of days there. when i arrived there, i was blown away by the ressemblance with old Miami. it's been a while since i wanted to post this. and it seems it comes on purposeDSC01925.thumb.jpg.48a505b524feb9c938c47a6f6883b4e0.jpgDSC01926.thumb.jpg.e7f949bb2e0405025b969f3be585e0d7.jpgDSC01927.thumb.jpg.203ba021c8afefcabe1bebf011e26858.jpgDSC01928.thumb.jpg.751cb742259d9b07432a24e77fb8fe8d.jpgDSC01929.thumb.jpg.518d4c5c4b668e44700b8fa53f5ba369.jpgDSC01930.thumb.jpg.ad1a6d4c751d1a044f715fcb3151858a.jpgDSC01931.thumb.jpg.7a11c292453f1db33ad38b51a8c464db.jpg
